I generally use google chrome. In the last few days I have noticed the following : after not having used the computer for a while - I click on google chrome - it comes up nicely with the google page, but then it would take ages to get specific web page. I then close google chrome - use internet explorer for a few minutes, close the internet explorer, go back to google chrome and it works fine does anybody have an explanation for that - thanks

Clivia - do you hibernate your machine, or shut down entirely when you leave it for a period of time. If you hibernate of put it in 'stand by', it may benefit from a restart from time to time, as the caches get cluttered up and everything starts working really slowly. My laptop is quite slow anyway, and every couple of days I restart and all's ell for 24 hours or so, until pages load very slowly and web links take an age to appear. Might be worth running your antivirus and anything else you may have which helps declutter your machine. Try using CCleaner which I run once a week - amazing how much cr@p appears on your machine when you are not aware.

Clivia You might have to clear your internet history on google chrome. Go to settings at the top of the page, its the icon with 3 horizontal lines and just scroll down or you might want to clear your cookies. Chrome related - I had to reinstall it because the search page had yahoo links on it and a different lay out. The reinstall solved the issue.. Sounds like they are having glitches

CCleaner will clear out your internet history if you want it to as well, along with unwanted files in the registry and all those temp files that Windows creates and then saves 'just in case'!

Re-boot of the modem can also clear a lot of things up as the ISP provider send updates all the time to the routers and some updates don't kick in until a re-boot has been done, also as others have mentioned Ccleaner.
Oh and a good old disc defrag (might not speed your internet up greatly but it will improve the speed of the p.c)

I use chrome. I rarely clear the cache... although it slows down the initial start up (of chrome).... "waiting for cache". I'd rather have access to all my old e-cig related viewed pages.

This could be about site certificates being updated (and this your browser had quite a lot of work to do to revalidate them as they change... This will continue whilst companies plug the heartbleed flaw... If that's the case, the above will only result in subjective improvements... All the above feels like good advice, mind you.
