I've just managed to laser cut the shell of my vamo based walnut box after many hours of learning how to use the CAD software needed. This is the pieces straight out of the cutter. This is them assembled without glue. It needs a good clean up to get rid of the charred sap that bleeds from the wood while it is getting zapped. I am going to leave the burning on the joints as I like the contrast with the natural wood. Updates soon.

Looking good, can't wait to see how it will look when it's all cleaned up.

Now that has the potential to be a true thing of beauty.. well done. (Edit to self: stay friendly with seniorphil, he must be loaded to be able to have his own laser cutter CAD set up)

I've heard about this "Hackspace", may have to look into it. Their is a place up your way called DoES Liverpool: wiki.doesliverpool.com/They are part of the UK Hackspace Foundation and have a lasercutter plus some other interesting toys.

Interesting method of making a box I am honoured that you took time to comment, I should register on your forum rather than just rob technical advice. I will register now. Wait for the 26650 kick powered rubbernator.

A little update to this fiasco, and to my learning and understanding Computer Aided Design. The original pictures I posted on here were my first cuts after months of virtual prototypes. I loved the look of the box once it had been cleaned up, but wasn't happy with the baggy(for want of a better word) joints. To cut a long story short, after a series of compromises I realised I had to rethink all the measurements. The last straw was only being able to fit a 18500 battery. I removed the PCB, switch, etc, and took a lead headed hammer to it and was glad to say goodbye tto it. So here I am after more months of playing with inkscape and a few compromises, but nowhere near as many as before. It still needs a bit of finishing, but is up and running.
