So the Mrs has left me with task of buying sweets for wedding.... and I don't really eat sweets! We have decided to get these jars from IKEA www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00030262/ which are 1.8l.... probably have 6-10 Jars. And Mrs has told me to get sweets from the vaguest of descriptions lol! But think I've figured out what she wants... just can't figure out how much!!! I've found a place that does 3kg cheap online, only slightly more expensive than ebay prices for 1kg...... but would that be too much? Minimum order is 6 items.... so would be 18kg of sweets, between about 75 adults and 20 kids(mostly babies/toddlers? And how much would fit in a jar anyway!? guessing we are gona put jars on side so would be at most half full. I'm so confused!!!!!

At a wedding - can you have too many?
Worst case scenario (provided you can afford it) would be that the kids take home loads of sweets and love you forever.
Imo - buy loads and some paper bags for people to take some away.
To compare though: Once you have picked your sweets - go to local supermarket, find some bags of loosely comparable sweets, read the weight on the bag then you will have a feel for the size.

Most of kids probably won't eat them as too young I would of thought........ we only let are toddler recently have bit of cookie etc... so he would only get couple of sweets. I don't eat them often... maybe once a month at most and even then one or two and I'm done, mrs eats them more but still several kg of left overs might be too much!!!! Think your right, I need to look at some bags, or even go to a sweet shop to get a feel for what I'm buying volume wise methinks

Nah mate, maybe if it was something rare, but you could get them all in a few hours if needed, chill out you are doing just fine. If you have that many spare sweets left over, take them to your local youth club they will be more than grateful to hand them out to some nice kids for you.

My guess (and it is a guess is as follows):
A quarter pound bag of sweets is 0.11kg X 90 people (as you say some are too young for loads of sweets) = about 10kg Not everyone will eat them / some will eat more than others.
10kg would probably fill 6 jars on their sides, depending on the type/shape of sweets.
Probably better to have too many than not enough though, so I would buy at least 11-12kg and know to expect some over.
[Reiterating again I'm not a sweet expert this is just my 'best guess']

There is a great looking little sweet shop on my way to work, and I've tried to look in twice but the dam place is only open certain days of the week and I forgot both times, only open for 5 hours in middle of day too!

Sure they will sort you out a treat. Went to the sweet shop, very useful, actually recommending other places and how much I should get! She said could do something but would be more expensive from her and should get a few mixed bulk things from wholesaler in 3kg instead. She reckoned 6kg would easily be enough but to get the variety should probably just get twice that from wholeseller and give it away like you said as would still be cheaper!

Do you have a Booker cash and carry near you, they do loads of sweets wholesale at very reasonable prices.

100 grammes is roughly one quarter of sweets in old money lol x 90 people max? 10 kg would be ample 10 x 100 = 1000g 0r 1 kg
therefore 90 x 100g = 9 000 g 0r 9 kg therefore if you get 18kg s hun nearly twice as many as you need hope that helps
