And I was quite surprised at how sensible and fair it is. Looks like I've done some good here The Use of “e-Cigarettes” at Work This policy concerns the use of all alternative smoking products including look-alike cigarettes and electronic cigarettes, whether they contain nicotine or not and whether they emit vapour or not. For the purposes of this policy all the products will be referred to as “e-cigarettes”. The company recognises that many people use these products as an aid to stop smoking, and as part of our compliance with the Government’s smoke free legislation, this is to be encouraged. We also recognise that some employees may be concerned about the possibility of harm from vapour produced by these products and that their use may not help employees who are trying to give up smoking. Additionally, the company needs to maintain and project a clean and healthy image to employees and visitors alike. Therefore, the following rules will become effective from 26 May 2014: - - e-cigarettes can only be used in the canteen or outside the building in the designated smoking area. - e-cigarettes can therefore only be used in designated breaks. - e-cigarettes cannot be used at your machine/desk/workstation. As with all company rules, failure to comply may result in disciplinary action. Note: Studies carried out by the US Food and Drugs Administration classified the vapour produced by e-cigarettes as “Generally Recognised as Safe”. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) concluded that there was “no apparent risk to human health” from second-hand exposure to vapour.

The best thing is that BMA and WHO advice was ignored, be it on purpose or by accident

I can use mine in the kitchen at volunteering. The area manager found me vaping the other week - all she said was 'so long as it doesn't set off the fire alarm it's fine'

People say they do, but I've been vaping in areas with fire alarms for over a year. (I think you'd need to be making some big clouds...) There is one place I vape (the loo) which has a fire alarm above my head. I've not tested my Nemesis + Taifun GT in there. - - Oh, and I vaped non-stop in the Premier Inn once. There was a fire alarm above my head. They did however bust me for throwing the telly out the window and partying with strippers. (or did I dream that bit????)

One of my customers once asked a cabin stewardess if he could use his on a long haul flight to Egypt and she asked him to blow the vapour into the smoke alarm in the toilets to see if it set it off. As it did not, she kindly let him use it at his seat. It is good to know that some sense is starting to kick in from various avenues (the BBC excepted as per usual, they like to scare monger in favour of the Governmental taxes such as theirs).

- e-cigarettes can only be used in the canteen or outside the building in the designated smoking area. That's good, kibbster, apart from the bold. We all agree, that someone that has chosen to use an 'e-cig' full time, is someone that is trying to give up smoking (and invariably succeeding), so it seems bad to send them to the smoking area to passive smoke. OK, most vapers are sensible & will always go to the canteen......or loo!

That's a very fair policy statement kibbster, particularly like the last paragraph - no secondary risk, that should put the finger-waggling fun-hoovers in their place!

I agree, but as there is the option to stay indoors away from the smokers I'm not going to complain I think it was put there because quite a few of the vapers hang out in the smoking area by choice for the social side. Me, I've got my little vape posse in the canteen
