I got confused just reading all the replies ! LOL .. think I'll stick to 'buying' things at the moment .. then when I next visit my beach I'll take chykensa up on his offer of a coffee and a lesson seeing as halight probably wont be (300 miles is a long way to go for a coffee!)

Ha!! I insisted I would never ever recoil.....said I wouldn't ever be able to.... So it took me almost 6 months of avoidance, but here I am, giving it a shot and I don't know why I fretted? I have decent close up vision and small hands so I started wondering why I didn't think I could coil, bought one of those starter £10 coil and mesh kits from the mesh company (just in case) and then had a whirl with protank heads, wasn't difficult! I'm not fired up and twitching to start on dual/quad coils or ss mesh wicks but least I could have a go if I so desired and just being able to do protank coils saves me loads of money and I get a tastier vape. I'm now comfy enough doing ceramic coil rebuilds in my diver and speroid microcoils - so never say never I say!!

Clivia and Pepperty - I was the same as you too! The terminology was frightening at first, all talk of coils, wicks, sub-ohming, Kayfuns v. Taifuns, resistance, ohm meters, etc. was baffling to me chugging on my eGo/clearo combo. I gradually got into the old school Vivi Novas, and then watched a video showing how much easier these were to recoil because the slots were shorter. I thought to myself, I could do that, and got some wick and wire. After about 3 attempts I got one to fire and not short, and the sense of satisfaction was amazing! When I got into Protanks Super-Shiny soon after published his guide and I got into doing these heads with 2mm Ekowool and .2 Kanthal. Finally I took the plunge and tried a microcoil after buying a blowtorch, and the rest is history, as they say. The terminology will become understandable as you get deeper into the vaping gloom, but if you can't be bothered to go there, the kit now available is so good that with an Aerotank or Nautilus (both Bottom Dual Coil tanks) and cheap authentic replacement heads, you really don't have to worry if you think recoiling isn't your thing.
