A few weeks ago we had a 747 go over (high level) heading for the Atlantic with a 4 strong 'guard' of fighters in a delta formation, I checked online but couldn't find out who it was they were escorting

I have an ear for military aircraft, kinda makes me miss it all. You definitely know when a vulcan goes over.
We get Tornadoes and Typhoons flying low over us every day, as well as the good old Chinooks.
Hey, we're all anoraks!!

Ahhhh so if we're all anoraks I don't have to be embarrassed to share one of my great life moments ... when I was married to the RAF (no longer the case) I got the opportunity at one of their family days at Lyneham to go up in a Herc while the fly around with the back door open !! There was obviously a safety net, but it was an experience I will never forget - it was awesome

There are a couple of RAF fast jets roaring around up at 25,000 or so as I type - frustratingly, there is 6/8 cloud so almost no chance of seeing them though

I look too it's a while ago - but I flew a few times with a Hercules - in and out of Sarajevo - due to job of ex-husband - still a friend - we called it the 'maybe airlines' because maybe you flew with the British, or the Greek or ... what ever available - those Hercules are noisy

I used to love it when I lived at RAF Lyneham and the Hercs used to fly over the back garden all the time. wibble when were you at Lyneham? We lived in MQ's for close on 14 years, hubby did 3 tours at Lyneham and then was at Corsham but we stayed in our quarter at Lyneham and he did the commute. Entirely possible we may know each other lol

Slightly off topic, but had enough of flying whilst in the forces...........Have you ever had a truly bad morning after the night before? Then imagine some SOB sarge decides to cal gas gas gas and you get into your "noddy suit" just before you take off in for an exercise and the bloody pilot engages in "Nap of land " flightpath. Just hope you don't say hello to your breakfast whilst wearing a resipirator Nowhere for it to go!!!!! Just had to cheer you all up with this image.....
