To be honest not sure about miracast? But I have a Samsung dongle which I plug into my smart tv and it connects to my phone, router and any android device. Using myshare I can play off the phone to tv. So what's the difference in the miracast?

You wanna be getting one these www.ebay.com/itm/191117387903 it already has XBMC installed so you will be able to watch any movie or sport that`s in cinema or playing live, amongst many more things, just go onto youtube to add the right add ons to XBMC to get anything but i think this is pre programmed. a bragain. Not all Android devices are as good as they make out, but this does what it says and more as well as updating itself. If that`s what you looking for the TV that is, smart TV`s are crap you can only get what apps are in say samsung app store, just get a good LED tv and this, it`s the way to go and the future lol

scaffman69 @zero Thanks for the reply, I already have a Android Box for use at home on my shopping list. What I want this for is when I go away to hotels or on holiday a device that will display what is stored on my Nexus 7 (films etc). As I understand it the Miracast dongle makes it's own Wi-Fi connection so there does not need to be a wi-fi network to use it, this is important as some places I stay do not have wi-fi especially when abroad on holiday. And do you know how much data costs on a phone when you're abroad For instance when I was in Spain recently me and the other half had to watch stuff huddled around the Nexus 7, it was OK, but would have been so much better on the TV screen in the hotel room. The only English speaking channel was Discovery Max. I have just booked to go to Spain again in September and though there is a sattelite receiver in the apartment there are no English channels available now as Sky has changed their sattelites and they no longer cover Spain. I think it would be ideal in this situation as it is so small. A miracast dongle "casts" whatever is on your Andriod Phone or Tablet screen to a HDMI input on a TV. See here : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracast

I have a NowTV box in my bedroom with Plex side-loaded and I have the "unsuppoted App Store" also installed that has given me access to other channels including some *ahem* Adult content But that's no good to me on holiday as it needs a wi-fi network to function and is why i'm considerng a Miracast dongle. There are no English freesat channels in Spain any more and can you imagine me carrying a sattelite receiver and dish on board a aircraft Or attempting to move the dish and retune the holiday apartment receiver!

DiscoDes , I thought you had found what I have been wondering about, but alas it is not. This seems to be a good thread to ask on though. Your nexus is there something that you can buy to give you an internet connection when you are in a no internet zone? Like in your apt in Spain, rather than go to a bar you would like to use the internet in the apt, but there is no WiFi, can something give you it?

Unfortunately due to extortionate data charges when roaming abroad it is impractical to stream anything. You can buy wi-fi hot spot dongles and use one in Spain with a Spanish Sim Card, the town where I go has a phone shop where you can hire one for a week. The Miracast dongle is for displaying whatever is on you Android phone or tablet onto a TV screen wirelessly, Pictures, Games, films stored on your phone or tablet.

Thankyou Oh and the Mairacast dongle is a dedicated "hot spot" but it's not connected to the internet, just to your phone or tablet so it's a 1 to 1 wireless device solely for "casting" what it's connected to.
