NOOOOOO!!! In the pot, where they always live when the OH is in the house (apart from when she's left them somewhere else, that is!).
Call me Mr. Logical, but that is where I would have looked first, and assumed (wrongly) that OH had already looked there

Personally I think he was just being clever and did not want to throw the bottle away as you can re-use it and did not tell you he had used the last of the bottle in case
