I've had a little look around the site but wondering if someone could advise me or point me in the right direction as there is a lot of information on this board (which is great but quite baffling to a non smoker). Basically my OH has tried everything to give up smoking in the past, patches, gum, hypnosis but has always been unsuccessful. However a colleague recently purchased a Skycig pack and he tried it and really liked it and is now thinking about purchasing one. I was in Tesco the following day and purchased a disposable 10motives e-cig which he tried but couldn't stand the taste, said it was awful in comparison to the Skycig and normal cigarettes and couldn't use it. However, the Skycig reviews I have read don't seem that good, ie expensive, short battery life etc to other brands. But my dilemma is that he liked the taste and would use it, so am worried that if I buy a starter pack from another brand he may not like the taste and then not be able to use it. I would also add he is impatient, doesn't like fiddly things and is clumsy! So unless it's super easy I will be refilling/charging etc for him before/after work (which to me would be a small price to pay for smokeless rooms!). Any advice much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello & welcome Rainey You are right, a skycig isn't brilliant. Would your OH mind using an e-cig that was more the size of a cigar? If so, then something like a Riva would be far better for him. Have a quick look at the pics & vids thread, to give you an idea of the different sizes it will also show you how they are refilled - allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=newmembers&thread=2349&page=1#74660As for the taste, any e-cig (apart from disposables) can be filled with any flavour juice. So you could buy your OH a few small sample bottles to begin with.

Welcome raineylb! Lots of experts will be around to help you shortly.
I'm new to all this myself, and have successfully been off the cigs without any cravings for them for over 11 days now and was a heavy smoker.
Lots of choices out there and I'm sure folks around here will be able to provide you with lots of very helpful info.

Hello Rainey and welcome :-) It must be confusing for you, all this info and trying so hard to find your husband a decent ecig, well the good news is that they are not that difficult at all to use :-) Chrissie is right, you can get small sample bottles with different flavours for him to try, the suppliers are very fast with delivery as well.

Hello and welcome Rainey, I was exactly the same as your hubby, tried everything to give up nothing worked until hubby got me an e-cig. He had to do all the homework for me and filling it up, charging my batteries etc I do it all myself now though lol. As Chrissie say regarding the taste, he can choose his own flavours, lots of yummy ones about Lots of newbies start on the Riva's and the battery life is so much better than the look alike ciggies.

Thanks for the speedy replies everyone, I think he likes the idea of it looking and 'lighting up' like a real cigarette but maybe that novelty would wear off. I will show him the clip and see what he thinks. I think in the long run it would be battery life and taste that would keep him using it.

Rainey, the lookalike e-cigs all tend to have a very short battery life, plus there are less options of what can be used with them.

Thanks, how long does your battery last in the Riva? Looks like that is the most popular one, need to persuade him its substance over style! lol

hi Rainey and welcome the riva battery lasts me all day and the starter kits come with two so you always have a spare while the other is charging.... it doesnt say how big the batteries are on the Skycig website but i'd imagin they would only last about a third of the time of a riva or ego (geo is a similar model to the riva) how much and what does your OH smoke at the moment? this will give us a better idea of what to recommend like to add swapping vaping for smoking is so easy and for alot comes very naturally as you find you actually prefer to vape than smoke after a day or two and thats before any of the health benifits and return of your taste and sense of smell

Thanks for all the help so far, at the moment he smokes Mayfair or if money is really tight roll ups, he often smokes about 20 a day, can be more quite a heavy smoker......unless I'm nagging him to cut down! lol

if its about 20 a day then a Riva/ego battery should last him all day but if he really doesnt want the bigger size then even two batteries might not last the day out and he'll have to do a recharge. if least amount of faff is a priority then it could be worth concidering a tank type e-cig (i dont mean to confuse you more) all you do with them is take the mouth piece out, flip off the cap and fill up the tank. replace the cap and mouth piece and away you go the flavour is mostly down to the e-liquid you choose... there are some great tobacco flavours out there and some that taste very similar to real cigarettes... im not an expert on tobacco so i will leave suggestions to others but you may find that your OH may like to try different flavours too... every imaginable flavour out there is available ...you'll prob be best to look for around the 20mg nicotine level have a look in here for suppliers and dont forget here for discount codeskeep asking the questions... we'll get you sorted
