Maybe a more accurate statement might be, Some types of SS can corrode. I fitted this 316 stainless fastener 6 years ago. It's been out in the elements without any cleaning or polishing in that time, it looks as good as when I first fitted it with very little signs of corrosion.

I have SS bolts on my kayak which hold the seat pan in place. They are submerged in sea water every time I paddle, and I hardly ever rinse my kayak after use. It sits outside in the open air, and gets rained on regularly too (this is Cornwall!). The bolts are as fresh as they were when I bought the boat, and have no corrosion or tarnish after 4 years.

No ,, I stand by the word RUST , I didn't say under what conditions , I just said all SS will rust. I find it hard to disagree with that blunt but unsubstantiated statement. decoy Rust is just a name for one type of corrosion. The corrosion in aluminium is aluminium oxide, it forms a protective layer on the surface. A chromium rich oxide forms on the surface of SS It's this passivation layer that protects it.
