I totally agree.  Also all this media coverage is quite upsetting to people who have been through similar abuse.

get delt with behind closed doors? i think the public should be aware of these things even if it is just a accusation,

thats like saying everything that is going to put a stain on somones reputation should be delt with in private, dont us the public have a right to know these things? there are already enough stuff the goverment,police force, press keep from us cause they can,

What amazes me is why it's takes 30 plus years for stuff like this to come out, and how the hell do you prove something that may have happened that long ago?? I Understand that some of them were young at the time and may have been under pressure or too ashamed to tell anyone, but a lot of these people have had the last thirty odd years to do something about it, don't get me wrong anything like this stuff needs reporting and dealing with, I just can't understand why it's taken so long, but I do wonder if a lot of these claims are false and some see it as a way to get some money out of it, I could do the same thing and make claims from when I was a teenager, and here's why! when I was a youth a lot of the big groups like the Stones and the Who played little local clubs in my area of London, I actually have tickets stubs from our local club from the 60s for the Stones, the Who, and Mungo Jerry, and actually meet and spoken to them all along with my gang of friends, so in theory I can actually prove I was there at the time, what's to stop me saying I was abused by Mick, there's only my word for it, and I'm sure as hell sure Mick wouldn't remember me or anything that may have happened, they were all stoned as were most of us back then, So I have proof I was there and friends to back that up, Mick only has proof he was there at that time, but other than my word against his there's no proof that anything happened, as I said I'm totally for dealing with abusers of any kind I just can't work out why anyone would wait so long to report it, unless it's todays culture of I could make a bit of money out of this,

The problem with this kind of accusation is that mud sticks. Once the idea is out there, people remember and suspect even if it is groundless. I agree that these things should be dealt with discretely until there is reasonable proof. Unfortunately with famous people, I think that these things will get out anyway.

As to why it sometimes take years or even decades to come out, anyone who has been through abuse will tell you how difficult it is to come forward. Even when they do, getting other people to be "involved" as in just state that the abuser had the opportunity ie time alone with the child, is surprisingly difficult. People don't want to believe when it is that close to them, however much they want to believe when it is a situation where they have no direct involvement.

Unfortunately abusers are often "the nice guy" that's how they get to their victims.

I hope that Cliff is innocent, for all concerned.

Yes we definitely have a right to know about these things...but surely it should be when it's proven...what happened to innocent until proven guilty? If he did it then I hope he gets the stiffest possible sentence ...however if he hasn't, there will always from now on, be people who will say..." There's no smoke without fire "

sorry stupid phone, but time will tell i hope he is innocent, not cause of who he is but cause of the nature of the crime and i wouldnt want anyone to go through somthing like that

Ok think of it this way.

You are in a club/ pub this weekend, you get rather drunk and see a girl you like.

She is only 15 but you were not to know that .

You start leeching over her,  slap her bum as she walks past, try to kiss her ,get a bit touchy feely with her etc she actually knows who you are and on Monday a policeman knocks on your door .

You have been accused of sexual abuse on a minor.

Would you want it reported on the news that you are a sex criminal, just because she reported that you were?

There will be hundreds of girls this weekend across the country, the world, getting touched by men in pubs, comments made to feel uncomfortable, do they run to the police?

No because Jo Bloggs down the pub isn't a millionaire.
