LR901's are still my favourite for dripping.

Well, that's an interesting read, and a good review, but I'm still none the wiser as to what uniquely distinguishes a '306' (or a 901 or an 808D) from a '510'. Is it just a number used by Cisco for that particular model? Is it a particular configuration of components? Is it because the drip tip fits over the outside rather than the inside? Is it because the threads are different? I suppose the real question is what do the numbers really mean?

Prof, that was a very useful link, thanks. What does the "306" refer to though?

"306" is just name given to the e-cigs that originally used that type of atomiser - as it's a "3" series number I suspect it was a JOYE made ecig. A 306 atty is basically an atty with a 510 compatible thread and a bridge which protrudes from the end of the atty - drip tips slide over the atty rather than plug into the top. 306 atties originally came with really weeny cartridges but I've never seen one. The 306 has turned out to be a brilliant dripping atty and which is frequently modified. The big atty companies make standard 306 atties and people like Cisco and others supply enhanced/modified versions. They all have basically the same format...

Wow, thanks for all the great information - especially Prof Beard. That clears up the puzzle for me.
There seems to be general agreement that the LR901's are the best, but this would mean investing in a suitable 901 device - I'm guessing that just using a 501-901 adaptor to one of my 510 devices is not going to get the best out of these?
So probably best for me would be to get one of the recommended 510 fitting 306 atomisers plus a drip tip that fits it.

You can get extremely neat 510 to 901 "stealth" adapters - they add hardly any length at all. Using adapters should not adversely affect performance

Liberty Flights do short 510 - 901 adaptors are they the right ones? I see Cloud 9 and Vapescape do adaptors as well - are they all the same? My worry about using an adaptor though is doesn't this in effect add extra air holes? I am wondering if that might not affect vaping with one?

the 901 has a different airflow system and doesnt draw air up through the battery connector like a 510 would. instead it has a vent hole in the side of the atty (see pic) i have found this leaks quite a bit if you over fill and the juice gets past the coil

Gordy you are a veritable mine of information. If I stick one of these on a 510 with an adaptor I will therefore get two lots of airflow I asssume? Since I don't like too airy a vape I think I will go with a straight 510 fitting 306 atomiser to start with and maybe get a 901 battery in the future to try the LR901's on. I don't want to have to do another sellotape mod I find all this stuff fascinating - probably the truth is that at my stage in the game and the hammering my taste buds have had over the years I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyhow
