I am not sure if my VTR might be playing up. If I use my protank on my missus MVP @8.5w it tastes good and there is plenty of vapour. If I use the same power on my VTR there is very little taste or vapour.
If I turn the VTR up even to 9w it burns.
I usually use it in voltage mode at no more than 3.8v but it is leaving me disappointed.
I thought adjusting one parameter in turn altered the other, so it wouldn't matter whether I used voltage or wattage mode? I think I may need to purchase something new.....

You need to run it in wattage mode. I suspect that the coil is quite low resistance?
I run my Protanks (and I have about 4 on the go) at between 8 W and 12 W with no burning.
Adjustment of voltage or wattage is totally independant.
Also check the atomiser connector on the VTR if it's dirty it might make the connection high resistance so it ups the power to compensate.
What resistance is the atomiser?

Coil reads 2.4ohm in this one. If I use in voltage mode I can go to 4v with no burning. But if I switch to wattage mode it burns immediatly over 7w.....confused now!

Unfortunately I don't have a VTR so can't advise specifically, but does the connector or centre pin unscrew? If not take a jewellers screwdriver at GENTLY scrape the top of the connector pin on the VTR and then clean off any swarf/crud with a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. If you can get at the pin an eraser is a good thing for cleaning contacts.

Don't think it unscrews but will give it a gentle scrape.
Don't want to f**k it up like I did on my SVD though! Thanks again.

I'd advise you remove the battery before attempting a clean just in case you hit the button and short it out!

Seems it was a combination of dirty VTR and poor coiling / wicking that pissed me off last night. Some jape best cotton stuff and a bit more time spent on the coil has it working a treat. Thanks for the cotton sleedale

jmw2309 get a bottle of isopropyl alcohol (99.9%) from ebay, it's imo the best stuff for cleaning connections on mods and batteries. Something like this
