Hello everyone, I've just joined this site, so please be gentle with me I feel that this is a bit of a stupid question (living up to my username ) but it's driving us mad, so please bear with me.... We have just bought a Riva 1100 starter kit for my husband. He's smoked for 40+ years but recently has only been smoking a couple a day. We bought some Deluxe tobacco medium strength juice to go in the cartridges. So I filled a cartridge according to the instructions (I think!) with 12 drops. They are atomized cartridges. The white filler stays in them, right? I then put the e-cig together and he has tried it a few times but nearly chokes and it's making him out of breath. There is also no vapour at all. I wondered if I'd put too much juice in the cartridges, so tried another one and just dripped 3 drops into it, but it's still as bad. Please can someone help and tell me what I am doing wrong here?!

I'm not the expert on this. But I think he may be getting a bad taste from the liquid which ships in new atomisers. You need to not inhale the first few draws, as they will taste bad, it can take a while to clear an atomiser I've found. Check too that it's not been overfilled, I often do this, blow it out from below onto tissue paper. I've only used atomiser via direct dripping, which is leaving out the white stuff and dripping 2 or 3 drops directly onto the atomiser. However I will tell you now, that I've never made this work in a way I've been consistently happy with. I use cartomisers and they are brilliant, try some of those and tell him well done for persevering. Welcome btw

Hello & welcome Blondie Please don't worry, we never think any question is stupid - e-cigs can be so confusing to begin with In fact one of the most confusing things is what is often labelled as atomised cartridges are just cartridges that you use with a separate atomiser. Which is what I'm guessing you have If so, 12 drops would most likely be a few too many. But yes, the white filler does stay in. Another thought is if it is one of the latest Riva's then it will be a a "5 click model". So the button needs to be clicked 5 times to switch it on.

hi Blondie, I am no expert so maybe somebody else will chip in, but what I do is first remove the filler and pat it dry with some kitchen roll. Then I add enough juice so its approx half full or just under, then I put the filler back in and push it down and then add a few more drops on top of the filler, wait a few minutes and then put the cart back on my riva, attach the cover and away I go!
Hope ive advised you ok here, there are some tutorials on youtube heres one

Welcome btw this works for me too, i have to "popeye" it like chug a few short blasts to get it going!

Hi Blondie,i would start again from the beginning.Take the Atomiser and blow on to a tissue from the open end, blow really hard until no liquid comes out, wipe the screw in end then blow through the tiny holes on the screw bit and wipe again.Next drop a couple of drops of liquid onto the silver bit in the middle of the open end and let it soak for 5mins.Put your filled cartridge on and chug on it without inhaling until you get good vapour from it(this breaks the atomiser in).If it still tastes horrid, drop a couple more drops of liquid on the silver bit again.Tell your partner to do this with every new atomiser as i know how horrid the taste is,nearly put me off when i had my first vape. Also make sure the white filler is not at the very end of the cartride so that it doesnt get caught on the silver thing. It sounds a mither at first but he will soon get used to it. Netty. xx

Hi Blondie & Welcome
Just to clarify....
are you using the seperate atomiser and cartridge that comes with the kit or have you bought a pack of cartomisers to go with it (these will be in a white box containing 5 and will also say 'atomized cartridges')
If it's the atomiser/cartridge combination it sounds like you've got the right idea. But, if they are cartomisers - they need 30 drops of e-liquid and time to soak through before using, otherwise you will just be vaping burnt filler material.
