Tinnitus! It's a bugger! I've had it constantly for about eight years - a high-pitched zizzing sound always in my head. Fortunately, I've got used to it and most of the time it doesn't bother me much, although at night I have to mask it by always having on speech radio or one of the masking websites.
Sometimes though, it drives me EFFING BANANAS..

I too have tinnitus, as a result of a career drumming, teaching drums, class samba and directing a youth jazz orchestra (hence my absence from you good people tomorrow morning!). I have worn earplugs which attentuate to 29db for the last 10 years, but I fear that the damage was done before that. Most of the time I tune out, but as you say OliverB it is trying to get to sleep which is the bugger. Could you please pop in a link for the masking websites, sounds interesting (no pun intended!), and might prove to be a useful solution on nights when it's really bad.

This is one I use the most - usually the white noise options: www.noisli.com/Or if the sound of rain works for you rain.simplynoise.com/I seem to have developed mine directly after having my ears syringed.

I've had tinnitus for years, self inflicted from listening to music too loud for too long on headphones. It's like a 1Khz tune playing, like a lot of people only get it while lying down or when it's REALLY quiet. Possible to tune out of it, or if you do like I do and read in bed (Kindle) to take your mind off it, that helps.

I've had it since a child I reckon. I thought my latest noise was audio hallucinations (blamed upstairs dish washer for 6 months. Was not upstairs - oops) for years till I told my ma and she told me. Will go.... Yeah sure cleaning your ears out (any way) can make it worse. I first recall having it about age 5 or 6 and my primary school teacher telling me it was God talking to me LOL Back in the 80s! No social work assesment. Nothing. Just 'is God talking to you - get on with ilfe'

Was going to say 'Catholic school @johanino' but you're in Scotland so it won't be presumably? They're notorious for ruining kids lives...

Well back on topic and I don't know how many weeks of Labyrinthitis.... Last week I wasn't sleeping well and boy that made it bad (like 4-5 hours sleep a night!!!). This week am sleeping better and taking regular 20 minute walks so am thinking of trying the bike for grocery shop this pm Should be interesting. Getting to the shops is easy. Getting back with panniers laden not so easy. But everyone has been coming out with their worst bike tales since this happened and there are far worse streets to ride on than the back route to the shops. Worst thing I have to worry about are HGV's at one particular junction . That is it!!!

Cycle ride was good - even if I was really sore after and I had to walk part way home with laden panniers... Even with the aches and pains was soooo worth it though asda was really busy and didn't have 18p toothbrushes. Also Aldi don't do aniseed toothpaste Today is a rest day Blessings Jane
