After the new ecig advert has now being aired LBC radio is debating whether ecig use might encourage people to use to stinkies. Sorry for the short notice but I pop my radio on when going to bed and this is the next hours main topic.

Oh and it's a phone in. Come on gang the main debate is does it encourage smoking I've got a face for radio but would no doubt come across as a blithering idiot. The host has already said he can't see how it will normalise smoking so thats a good start.

There has just been a discussion on Scotland Tonight (TV) where they had the heed bummer from ASH Scotland and an E-Cig Vendor (B&M shop) on. All in all both agreed that there was no need to glamourize e-cig, but on the other hand e-cigs were a good way to go if you were a smoker.
Basically the ASH guy was positive about e-cigs, but would rather see e-cig adverts aimed at the smoking population rather than the country as a whole.
It was a good and fair discussion and certainly did not do Vaping any harm.

Thanks for the heads-up JayJ ... listening in online. The presenter very supportive Yes I agree. One point that has been made is that 10% of 11 to 18 year olds have tried an ecig. Im sure that most of these kids will have been given an ecig to try not by walking into a reputable vendors shop and being served, but by a third party. The other point that should be mentioned is that a much higher percentage will have tried a stinky. Jay

10% seems quite high, although kids will be kids and experiment. In my (personal, [not business]) opinion I'd rather that they experimented with ecigs than tobacco. But better still nothing at all, lol.
We only generally sell online and I believe all our customers are over 18, although one new year we were selling at a shopping centre and it was "annoying to me" that I wasn't willing to sell to a 17 year old heavy smoker that wanted to give up, as we have an 18+ policy.

At an AA Convention some years ago I listened to a 16 year old girl telling her experience, strength and hope. She had been a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 2 years. In otherwords by the age or 14 she had realised that she was a full blown alcoholic and she had sought out AA and joined.
So hearing of a 17 year old wanting to change to e-cigs because he was a heavy smoker, comes as no surprise.
Children often get hooked on those drugs that adults take for granted and it is something that our country has yet to come up with an answer to. Setting age limits is a cheap opt out that requires no research and costs nothing but equally does nothing to solve the issue.

Personally I think the kids that might start vaping are the ones that might start smoking anyway, thinking back to the 60's when I was that age, I smoked, drank and did drugs all under age so in 50 years nothing has really changed it's what today youth does, why did I do it? partly the rebel in me, partly because all my mates did, partly because I wasn't supposed to and because in some ways it made me feel grown up, I get really p****d off the way adults today try and wrap their kids in cotton wool and then blame them for everything, they need to think back to when they were that age, the worst thing you could do was tell a kid not to do something it's a sure way for them to try it, we've had anti smoking campaigns, anti drinking, anti drugs and I can't see it has made the slightest bit of difference, all we can do as parents is point out the downside of those things, we've been there and hopefully learnt by our mistakes so can pass it on to them, no matter what we as parents or anyone else says if they want to do it they will and if you try to stop them they will find a way, perhaps if we sat them down and talked to them like little adults and explained the dangers or showed them the dangers a lot would be put off trying these things, treating them like they are naughty kids and telling them off and trying to punish them certainly didn't work on me and I doub't it would work on todays youth either,,,

It's a bit like putting up a "wet paint" sign and watching everyone check for themselves.

Personally I think it is stating that there actually IS an age limit.
Why should they be able to do something at 18 that they cannot do at say seventeen and a half or sixteen or any other age?
I do not believe that I was any more clear headed about my choices for my future life at 18 than I was at 14, 15 or 16.
By 25, yes and as I grew old, most definitely.
The age thing is all about "how young can they be before we can safely send them off to war and they can get killed fighting for their country". It is just a bloody government opt out.
