I have been looking at something like this for many a year and funnily enough have only recently been researching them through some knowledgable friends. The general consensus is that the rechargeable, cordless ones are not worth the bother, they are ok for small hobbyist work but dont have sustainable power for anything else, the most recommended one (to me) is made by Proxxon, they are not the cheapest but I haven't had ANYONE say anything bad about them yet.

The chuck on these types of tool don't take anything much bigger than 1/8 inch, so no good for that type of wood boring bit. Most regular drills will, even the 14v battery ones. The multi tool is a usefull piece of kit though. You can rout soft materials, even some plastics, but beware of the speed as they run at about 10,000 + rpm so can easily melt plastic if it gets too hot. Great for cutting with the cutting discs, even stainless steel. Great for polishing small things like scratched atties, although I've yet to try one, but have polished other things. Aldi had them in a few months ago along with a reasonable accessory kit. If you google Dremel tools you will see the range of stuff you can get.

The router set with one of these should do it. But to be honest the easiest way would be a regular drill. Which if you haven't got one, are a very useful thing to have. And cordless ones are quite cheap. But you can get Forstner bits that bore a flat bottom from about 1/4" upwards. While they can be used in a hand drill, it's easier and more accurate to use a bench drill or drill stand.

I bought an adapter for mine, a chuck about haalf the size of a normal drill one, would take bits up to 8mm, but it was pants, the weight of the chuck bent the shaft that goes into the drill, useless avoid.

Just buy a cheap Perspex atty stand and 510 Aliminium bases from FT, saves a lot of time & effort and look sleek Unless you must have a wooden one of course.
