An item incorrectly priced in a supermarket doesn't have to be honoured. The legal explanation is that it is 'a invitation to treat', not 'a price to be charged'. This comes direct from a Trading Standards spokesperson, and they ought to know!

My understanding is that some traders use Amazon's pricing algorithms which track market price and, within set parameters, adjust the listing price accordingly... A bit like the ultra fast trading software used in financial markets to gleam fractional profits in very large quantities... Which, without coded and wet controls in place may result in cascading falls...
