Greg What would you recommend? I made my recommendation above Bobsbeer, 0.25 Kanthal I'm confused. .21 is thinner than .25 so why is that harder to make micro coils? Or is it like how decoy says harder to work with?

dont heating it keep its strength? Heating doesn't affect the strength directly, unless you get into quenching (one of my favourites). Just heating a coil and letting it cool naturally will more likely temper the coil (make it softer). The point was a finer wire will deform easier, making rewicking more difficult as it's easier to disturb (deform) your coils. I'd recommend either 0.25 or 0.28mm kanthal (personally the latter) Back to the OP. May be a good time to move to cotton wool wicks?

Can i ask what's the difference between those Japanese pads and other brands of square cosmetic removal pads? I purchased a pack of 50 for a £1 from a local shop and maybe i'm missing something but i don't understand what. These are 100% untreated organic cotton.

The main advantage of Jap cotton is that has all the fibres running in the same direction, it seems like the fibres are longer as it holds together very well and is very uniform.

Bobsbeer - I would concur with what has already been said; .25 Kanthal and cotton wool, either the Japanese pads or an organic un-scented cotton wool ball or pad similar to the one you linked to. The other option is rayon, a cellulose-based fibre that also has the fibres running the same way. The major difference is that while using cotton you need to leave room for the cotton to expand and allow the juice to get to the coil, rayon needs to be well-packed into the microcoil to get the same effect. If you would like some rayon to try, PM me and I'll pop some in the post for you; I have a good amount and some spare. Either way, I would suggest you experiment with microcoils rather than winding thinner wire around a silica wick. The big plus doing this is that you can remove the old wick from a microcoil, dry-burn said coil and simply replace the wick, giving you a fresh coil which will last at least 6 weeks before requiring replacement. Once a silica coil fails, you have no alternative but to build a new coil - great if you need the practice, but a PITA in reality!

I got them from this place link, doesn't look like they sell them online though, there's a brick and mortar store near me i just happened to see the pads when i was in there buying some other stuff. The brand is called Simply Cotton and the item is named 50 Square Cotton Wool Cosmetic Pads if you wanna try finding a stockist online, there's no website on the pack only a sales email addy. sales@cmi-ltd.co.uk.

Thanks for the offer chykensa. flavourtank is sending me some wire and cotton, so I'll try with that first, or I will get confused. I need to get my head around all the different resistances and even no resistance wires. I'll get a coiling jig and have a play. Once I've given that a try I will start on other stuff.

tbh there is no need for a coiling jig i just use them small screwdrivers or drill bits to wrap coils round and rem if putting 2 coils in then the resistance is halved ie 2 x 2ohm coils will come out at 1 ohm and always check the finished atty,s hesitance to make sure its not shorted or to low if your atty leaks its no biggy just re wick it following a diff you tube vid
