hands up who's going to be tempted to grab their vape gear & blow huge clouds of (what they think) smoke out the window ?? Ooohhh me, me, me! I'll be down the playground pronto to grab a few kids when i see the local jam sandwich prowling around. Then it'll be out with the dripper to really get their attention. Afterwards i shall take delight in smugly telling the copper(s) that it isn't smoke and end with "What ya gonna do about it, eh?" But on a more serious note i think that it's about time that the Nanny State did one. My car is an extension of my house and i'll jolly well do what i like while in it although i do agree that you shouldn't expose kids to second hand smoke.(i don't have kids). There's too much of this "think about the children" crap these days. It's harsh but children are not equal to adults, they are marginally above the dog in the hierarchy. Too many times i hear that someone was late because little Timmy didn't want to go! Didn't want to go! He's 3 years old, he goes where you tell him! Seems to me another quick win for the government before the election? Oh and bring back smacking! TL;DR I'm ranting!

Oh dear... I think this thread is going to go downhill very quickly... not, in any way the fault of the OP, but it just opens up a 'can of worms'. Who are the State, to tell us how to behave within our family. They would be far better off securing our safety against those really trying to destroy us, i.e. terrorists and other 'idiots'. If smoking is so bad (which most of us on here agree), stop trying the softly, softly approach (while keeping the tax receipts)... and BAN the bl**dy product. It's not going to happen.

Mmmmm, problem with that though is the smokers would then cry nanny state, and rightly so IMO. It wasn't that long we would all cry the same way.

I don't compare my children to a dog, they are top of the hierarchcy in my world and come over any person or animal living on this planet, but they do what they are told when and respect adults. Yes we have a nanny state for adults and personally I don't even need the police but that's not fair for others, women, the elderly etc. "think about the children" then yes, sometimes we have to, not are all born into loving family's.
As for this law, it will not really need to be enforced, yes a few jobs worth coppers from the pretty suburbs who have no stabbings to attend might but it's really just their to change public opinion and make it frowned upon, it will police itself.

They can't write a law specific to your family, It has to be a law for all. If another parent come to pick my children up puffing a Cuban cigar I wouldn't like it and drive them there myself, would find it disrespectful to be honest. Why would I after spending the last 10years of my life standing out in the cold smoking when I have my children.

The type of parents that would smoke in a car with their kids in are not going to take any notice. There's a law for everything, and they lose their impact. Look at the new legislation on cig packets. Do these morons think we were addicted to the pretty colours? It's a massive job creation scheme for otherwise useless bureaucrats.

As someone who did smoke heavily for years in the house and car with the kids, even the budgie coughed, I understand this. I don't allow smoking in my car now (hypocrite - I know, first car ever had without cig burns in seats) and I do get pissed with people blowing smoke at the Grandkids. The police will ticket a few for a couple of months to show the new law is working and then forget it, bit like mobile phone use. Nanny state yes but is that a bad thing in this case? Watch Jeremy Kyle on TV and decide if people are capable of making the correct/rational decisions. Sadly a lot of people need spoon feeding and arses wiped

Nice idea till they find something else to charge you with - driving without due care and attention, not fully in control of your vehicle, driving with restricted view, wasting police time etc, etc, and that's before they go over the car to see if they can pick up any unsafe vehicle infringements

Very true.....and making the tobacco companies swap to plain packaging will save them stuff load of money & increase the profit margin.
