I've never understood the rucks regarding jam or cream first................I mean, it makes sense to whack the jam on first & then, if it displeases someone, the simple solution is to turn the bugger upside down after filling it ..............Who's gonna know?................ "Life...........is just a bowl of tricks!!!!!!" But if you turned it upside down, all the cream & jam would fall off

As a born and bred Cornishman, I can agree with many of those sentiments. Scones - as mentioned, one half, with jam from a knofe, and then topped with Rodda's Clotted Cream, there is no other acceptable substitute. The Cornish accent is probably one of the most complex around, and unbelievably, it is still possible to tell which part of Cornwall someone comes from by their accent. It is far too complex to explain here, but with slight variations in the burr and inflexions, it is possible to tell if someone comes from Bude (or 'Boode'), the South-East near Plymouth or Saltash, or even between Penzance and St. Ives, which has it's own quite distinctive accent. As a musician I may be more used to listening to the lilt of the accent, but I know there are people around who can tell within 5 miles where someone hails from.
As far as pasties, there is no substitute for a proper Cornish pasty with only beef skirt, potato, onion and swede, with plenty of salt and pepper seasoning, in shortcrust pastry with the crimping ON THE SIDE, NOT ON THE TOP! Rowes are my favourite, and I know that each area has its own favourite pasty bakery. Anne's Pasties are famous on the Lizard, and the Horse and Jockey in Helston make the most humoungous ones too!
As we say, 'Gedd'on, my bewtie!'

I remember my father telling me this, chykensa, he was from Penzance, and the more he drank, the thicker the accent became !

As a bobby my first posting was Penzance, I clearly recall visiting a pub in Bottallack and chatting to a retired miner, he told me he was going to the big city on Saturday, so thinking he was going to Bristol or London we had a chat. Turned out the big city was St.Just (a large village/small town) between Lands End and Penzance!

I think I may suffer from a similar affliction Nosmo-King, people say I don't have an accent, but if I record myself, or hear myself back, I can spot it a mile off. Generic Cornish I think though, not Redruth, as it should be!

So basically I got to drink what he tells me, drive how he says and am not allowed to buy an house where I so choose in this country. Stick the old moany git in a council flat in Bethnal green for a year, think he would more to moan about than a bloody cream tea then......yea I would piss him off in seconds.....

Cornish pastie, followed by a cream tea - sheer heaven..........
I love Cornwall, just wish it wasn't a 5 - 6 hour drive away.
