Ok guys, time to bore you with my story to date.
I am 33 and smoked since I was about 14. I never really wanted to give up, but then never really enjoyed smoking either. It was just a bad habit. I have a stressful job, work shifts and the fags were a way to get away from it for five minutes.
Our first daughter arrived last summer. I then started to think more about my health (which touch wood is pretty good) and the financial implications of smoking. My wife, friends, family and work colleagues are ALL non smokers so I felt like a bit of an outcast.
I 'gave up' in November 2011. I used nicotine gum and an inhaler. To be fair, they worked quite well for me and I did really well, up until Xmas. I had a few cigars and a couple of packs of fags. I probably had about 10 cigars and 20 fags. So, much better than normal, but I felt myself on a slippery slope. The worst habit to break was smoking at work.
My brother in law told me he knew someone that used ecigs and thought they were great. I knew a bit about them and was always interested but never looked further into them.
Just before the new year I saw a thread on moneysavingexpert that sent me to these forums. Got some great advice from you guys and ended up with an SD Keyring, some Grizwald juices and Kanger cartos.
Now I have a ego/Riva kit with freedom vape juices and boge cartos.
I now havent had a fag this year, so nearly a month now. I don't even want one or really think about it either. It's really quite amazing.
This thread really is to show any new comers that ecigs do work. This forum is one of the best I visit and really friendly. There isn't any ulterior motive and everyone has been in the same position at some point.
So what's next for me? It might disappoint some, but I dont want to be vaping forever. I am thinking I want to stop this within 6 to 12 months. If that happens I don't know, but I am 100% confident I am done with fags forever!
Until the next question I have.....
Thanks all.

Fantastic post Don & thank you for posting it As Bel says, it really is so lovely hearing stories like yours & yes, it will encourage any new comers a lot. Well done Don, & I for one certainly wouldn't be disappointed if you also give up vaping - far from it

I reckon I'm going to be the one lab rat that made it to 80 and can testify whether vaping is bad for you or not in a "long term" situation. Near 60 years is long term right? I will of course be arrested for driving a purple mobility scooter the wrong way down a main road but I'd like to think I'd be healthy while doing it I don't feel like I want to quit. I never really wanted to quit smoking but I felt I had to even at 24 because I was getting close to being an invalid so young and I have to make it to 80 to fulfil my dream! lol anyways, good luck on your journey and know you'll have our full support along the way

Thanks for sharing don, I'm sure it will help give some of our guest visitors the extra bit of courage to try vaping. It can be daunting and quite scary to think about it when you start especially if you don't know any one in real life who vapes.
As for coming off the vaping, since I started about 4 months ago I have already dropped from 32mg to 18mg for my main all day juice so who knows by the end of the year I may be on zero nic juice.

Well done don, very inspiring. Like you I found out about e-cigs from the moneysaving expert forums, I despaired of not being able to stop smoking, tried NRT in all its shapes and forms, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, nothing seemed to work and it was only last week that I even knew that e-cigs existed...... honestly!! You and plenty of others on here have given me the boost I needed to try to keep well away from those fags, vaping is the way to go congrats!!

I honestly thought the way your thinking Don , but at the end of the day I really don't give a shit whether or not I quit my ecig in the next few months or not now , I'm 12 months without a nasty and if I carry on with ecigs for the next few years I'm happy with my life

I will of course be arrested for driving a purple mobility scooter the wrong way down a main road but I'd like to think I'd be healthy while doing it 10/10 for the determination with the purple mobility scooter again Lefty! Lol. You forgot the massive e ciggie disguised as a walking stick
