Was thinking about reccomending this to a friend who is still on ego twists but thinking of upgrading, would the batteries in this be ok since the vamo only fires down to 1.5, or would they still definitely need replacing?

tbh, I'd get just the vamo from there... see here for better batteries and charger choices..

for example, something like this, decent charger and decent batteries

the v2 is slightly less versatile when it comes to using ego-threaded tanks on it as it has a narrower space to fit them into around the connector. And you'd need another battery on top (one in use, one charging/charged), so you'd need to add an extra £5-ish for a decent one on top anyway.

End of the day, it's your choice, but I personally would go for the separates

I bought a kit and to be honest I wish I hadn't. The charger is crap and the battery could have been a re wrapped AA it looked that bad. Oh and it came with a protank 3 which is probably the worst clone on the planet. I'm using the charger because I don't have a better one and can't afford one at the moment. I really wish I'd bought separates. Probably would have cost about the same and would of been far better quality stuff
