Hi All, Not e-cig related and wasn't sure whether to post this here, but figured it's important so what the hell. Please take a look at this and get behind it if you're so inclined: www.avaaz.org/en/eu_save_the_internet_spread/?copyCan't see why it would, but if it gets up anyones nose I apologise in advance. Cheers for now, John

Not getting up my nose - this is worse than SOPA/PIPA and yet has been given hardly any attention/ Apparently the EU signed up to this last week...

I've honestly tried to read the Wikipeadia page about it, but I still don't get it. It's massive and very confusing.
What exactly is the problem?

Is this the same thing that Wiki did a 24 hour blackout for a couple of weeks ago?

It sounds like the same thing that they tried to pass over here. There was so much opposition to it, that the politicians decided to shelve it............................for now.

No it#s a different thing, but with the same effect. Worse still, it's pan-national.

However the organisation I've linked to was involved in helping get the US legislation shelved, and now also hopefully will help kick the EU guff into touch also. John

Hi Womble, Essentially it's attempting to stop legislation that would enable a select group of rich corporations and governments to in effect 'censor' the internet. Supposedly to counter piracy and fraud, but casting such a wide net that it will inevitably impact free speech and democratic freedoms imo. There's a huge stink about it, and rightly so imo. Cheers, John

Indeed, I've already lost too much personal freedom in the War on Terror.

Cheers, John I see the piracy and fraud in the legislation, but tbh, I don't see the rest. Show me the bit that will impact free speech and democratic freedoms and I will sign in a heartbeat.

If indeed Obama signed it, then he has overstepped his authority and it is not valid in the U.S.
All laws and treaties must be approved by both houses of Congress and then signed by the President, before they become law.
