Awe Scyll - that's not good. Poor dad couldn't get them close enough for all three to be under him. MMa

More weather-related tribulations for our birds, osprey this time. EJ was happily playing with her stick when the hail came down >

awe heck Scyll - the weather is being most unkind to our birdies. Those hail stones must have felt like pellets hitting her. Please let it improve MMa

Decorah chicks - no weakling here, Mma And they're not fighting over food, their crops are quite full: EJ laid egg #3 today, here's a glimpse. The nestcup is too near the cam (EJ was out of sorts and scraped her own cup rather than use the one hubby and lover had prepared for her) so we can hardly see the eggs: Not good fishing weather at Loch Garten (more snow and wind) so EJ isn't eating all that well. Plus, how could I forget? CORNISH BARN OWLS HAVE SEVEN EGGS!!! Or they did yesterday morning, haven't checked since. And they said she'd never lay

This is the first time I have ventured here. Woohoo !
Sorry dedicated birder. My earliest memories are walking through a forest in Germany looking at Middle Spotted Woodpeckers when I was about 5 or 6.

Nope life long RSPB and BTO member even when living outside of the country.
Will try to get some video of the Swallow Tailed Kites and Red Shouldered Hawks I have nesting in my garden also have Bald Eagles nest a couple of hundred yards behind my garden.
Those are OK but the Swallow Tailed is exactly the same as the Scissor Tailed in east Africa. The Red Shouldered we get is a Florida sub species which is a little different from the norm but it is still a buzzard lol
Do like the hummingbirds though. Hence my Phiniac tank. Managed to get them to overwinter in the garden for the first time this year after 4 years of trying. We only have one species in the east, Ruby Throated but do love them.

So will EJ have 3 separate ones of her own as well as the ones already hatched? She's going to be mighty busy if that's the case!!
Love the Barn owls - she's going to be mighty busy as well!!!
I do look for this thread as soon as I come in though. I did have a quick look in t'other day but had to run for the loo!!!!

Gosh, Andy, your garden sounds so exciting, I hope you can get us the vids! Oh my! Sorry I whined, I hope you'll be better very soon! I'm too muddle-headed to work out how I've confused you, but EJ's only got the one lot of 3 eggs to worry about, none already hatched The Loch Garten nest-cam has been down since yesterday afternoon, I do miss my boids

Foxy, super capture of eaglets lined up for dindins MMa, it was White EJ the female osprey who had a fling with Blue XD, whose nest was destroyed by storms so when he got home from Africa he couldn't nestorise it, his sticks fell straight thru - and then he found EJ, all on her own on a ready-made nest... But then EJ's husband Odin got back and turfed XD out, I fest terrible for XD but the osprey experts set up a basic platform for him in a tree near his old nest and he started rebuilding it, and then his wife Green J came home and everyone lived happily ever after... so far! Odin has accepted the egg/s, the first one or two of which are probably XD's. A lot of bonking has been going on! But someone's attacked EJ a couple of times, here's where EJ can't get up to defend because she's sitting on 3 eggs (the cam/broadband has broken down so we're only getting this awful pic with almost no sound): The Richmond eagle parents have been spooked by work on the cam and are no longer going to the nest, although they are nearby preventing intruders from... intruding So the experts decided that, as humans had caused the problem, they would take the unusual step of intervening and feeding the chicks. Who'd be an arborist?!!! Here is a fabulous osprey nest in Estonia, have only just been introduced to it, am showing it to you because of the rather lovely environment, for want of a better word, and the bird is so sleeeeek! I was thinking you should do a painting of it, MMa, but not sure it's your style And here's a very special pic especially for MMa cos she loves perries:
