Two sides of the public

So at the hospital today and they were running behind I don't like hospitals much so didn't need much of an excuse to go for a good vape standing outside and this woman is puffing away on an analog looks at me and says "you must be stupid to use those" I love a challenge and am always happy to engage with people so I said sorry what do you mean.  She came back with just about every scaremongering rubbish we've all seen " inhaling battery acid", "formaldehyde" and my all time fav "more carcinogenic then normal cigarettes" and continues to lecture me on how I'm not just hurting myself I'm hurting her as well because she's near to me.  I told her that the things she had said were not true and had been spread by hearsay I handed her one of my little homemade business cards that have links to Dr f's research and study site and said please don't take my word for it visit the link on the card and read up for yourself I also include an email address on the card that victims I collar can contact me on if they get more interested.  She throws the card straight in the bin saying it will be made up rubbish (oh the irony) and the guy probably isn't a real doctor and that I hadn't heard the last of this.

So I thought ok a failure never mind back to my vaping about five minutes later I'm still there vaping away and see two very big security guards heading my way was getting ready to put my mod in my pocket and move on when they stopped I said its ok I'm going back inside now I won't vape here again.  Both of them were really friendly and polite and smiled as they said no need to it's not a problem we only came over to see what you had, neither of them smoked or vaped but both their partners did and they want them to move over to vaping but sounded as though they had tried cigalikes and ego setups with no success.  We stood talking for over half an hour about my istick50 which one of them labeled the "perfect thing for a woman" and the tanks I had one gave me his phone so I could bookmark some websites where he could buy and I also book marked some good tutorials on YouTube for the basics.  Got so into it with them ended up being late to the doctor but the ass backwards way it happened really hit me the smoker lectures me about vaping the non smoking\vaping people had the most open mind this world really does my head in at times.

I've had similar confrontations with smokers whiteshep. Usually it ends up with the smoker saying that I don't know what damage I am doing to myself, which is correct.

So I tell them, "No I don't. But I *feel* a LOT healthier since I stopped smoking, and I know for a FACT that smoking kills. It also saves me money, so I am better off vaping than smoking"

The other problem that crops up a lot is, when people see the vapour exhaled from a decent set-up, they just assume it is the same as "smoke". So I am still smoking in their opinion. This is usually from older people. The youngsters I meet think it is all daft. Which I suppose it is

Edit: Hope you have managed to convert the "partners". Smoking is too d**n expensive!

I gave up with those types and i just stare at them intently and say my psychiatrist says they are good for me as you wont set anything on fire like you did when you were smoking. Then ask them if they have a light.

Normally I at least make a little dent but onwards and upwards always tomorrow now got my mother mostly off the stinkies though egos not totally doing enough for her so she wants an istick50 and I'll be sitting with her to find some tanks she's happy with plus got another friend visiting next week while he's on leave and he is curious so might get him onto vaping as well .

You're doing sterling work if you can even get people to think about an alternative to smoking.

Oh just let someone say something to me about the dangers. funny how smoking is banned all round the hospital I go to yet I vaped in my room all day with my vape gear on the side all the time not one word said
I vaped in the corridors not one word said and vaped outside not one word said good or bad it was totally ignored

Windows as soon as vaping is sorted in a legislative way hopefully allowing us to continue Ihave a small list of people i will go up to and blow a cloud till then everyone is a possible convert if not to actually vaping then to at least understanding and being more pro then anti as I think that's our best chance to keep our vaping. In just over two years since I adopted my everyone policy I've only hit three brick walls I find most people are just not aware of what vaping is and how beneficial it is for all of us add in that most of what people see and hear is very negative and it is an uphill battle but one I think we can win.

I had a good one a few years ago in Cash Converters when I was a bit less polite

Staff came up to me and said 'whatever you're smoking - don't do it in here' 'I'm not I'm vaping' and then promptly vaped in his face and walked out

Kind of rude now with hindsight but still. I am still vaping. CC is closed down LOL

And as for these smokers - ignore them - they really aren't worth bothering with - or even engaging in conversation - remember the biddy who told me I'd get fined £35 if the 'coppers saw me smoking one of those things in the bus shelter' (loads have seen me before and since - no probs!) and also remember

You can see nicotine on walls - just think of what it's doing to your insides

The trouble with having an open mind is someone always comes along & wants to put something in it.

Seriously though, i tip my hat to you for engaging with someone who is so obviously anti, personally i just give a wry smile & a nod, it seems to wind them up no end.

I have made a couple of good friends because of vaping just wish there was a far bigger campaign to put the facts out there about vaping as right now it's a constant barrage of misinformation and lies thats all the ordinary public get to see .

You're quite right, i've set up quite a few inquisitive sorts with starter kits to give it a whirl but not a single one of them were 'anti' like the lady you mentioned in your OP, they all questioned the safety aspect & quoted what they'd heard on the news etc etc but it's not difficult to differentiate between those that want to know & those that have already made up their mind that vaping is a greater evil than smoking.
