Onboard Charging Question

With the current boom in small box mods with a removable battery but also USB charging I was just wondering what the onboard charging was like in general.

Any good or are people taking the battery out and charging separately anyway (not talking about swapping battery to charge one while vaping)

Just thinking it would be a handy thing to have if your away for the night to save taking along extra batteries and separate charger seeing most people are going to have a phone charger with them anyway.

Is a removable battery a big advantage over an inbuilt one for any reason apart from prolonging the life of the mod when the battery will no longer hold a charge ?

Again I'm not talking about swapping batteries with a fresh one to keep vaping.

I've never taken the battery out of my VS DNA40. Just charge it wirelessly and the charge time Is significantly quicker than the dna30 using the same method

1 x 18650 doesn't quite last me the day so I have been used to taking one spare.

However, the dna40 charging via usb is absolutely rapid so although I still carry a spare, I just stick it on charge for half hour after lunch and it gets me through

On my sig 50 I remove the battery and charge it in my xtar more comfortable with that and if there's a mishap of any sort while charging it only takes out my £25 charger not my £70 mod . USB charging is a lot better then it used to be but I still prefer removable battery's although I have the istick50 just never expected the istick to be as good as it is didn't think I'd be using it much.

Fair point on not wanting to destroy an expensive mod if it goes wrong whiteshep - does that one have magnets on the door catch though to make battery removal easy for that purpose ?

cloupor mini has magnetic battery door, and I just swap batteries to charge external tp the device

to be honist i loved my mini cluoper but it was an early one so i dint trust it and am in process of changing the chip
the dont seem to have been any more melt downs reported so i would recommend one 2
i dont know if its how small they are,the weight or the buttons but it feels nice in the hand
i did on one emergency charge it throw the usb and there was no fiery end
it worked flawlessly till i ripped the innards out except one thing ,the 510 it started to wobble not a lot but it was there
oh and dont overtighten the thing the 510 is soldered directly to the board and it can snap off
so take long attys off before pocketing
but and this is best part is only about £20

and removeable batts are good for mod life and safety(if poop go bad can still pull the batt)

It has a swing door with a magnet at the bottom holding the door shut easy to change batts in a few seconds.

I was considering one of the smokwell dvp 50 things that are being talked about on the other threads but I like the idea of the magnetic covers for easy pulling of the battery if things go wrong, but then again if it was a mod with a built in battery and things go wrong then you cant pull the battery.

Reckon I'll need to just pick the one I like the look of the most and hope for the best

I thought almost all regulated mods are protected from overcharge/undercharge no? Maybe clones are dodgy, but not even sure about that on the basics?

Not that I have tried all types of mod, I just assumed. But then again, to assume is to make an......

Is it the the v1 or v2 you have?
I'm not sure about the v1 but the manual with the v2 says not to use it as a passthrough while charging via usb which i think is a bit weird, it's the only usb chargeable mod i've seen though that says don't use as passthrough.
Even more strange is although they don't want people using it as a passthrough it does still fire when plugged into a usb, i think they should have programmed it so the fire button is disabled when plugged in because there are bound to be lots of people who don't read the manual and think it'll be fine to use as a passthrough like every other mod out there.

Generally i've found using an external charger is quicker than usb charging, with the exception obviously of the zip charging feature on the VS wireless charger.

I've got the v1 and it says not to use in pass through mode but as I don't use the USB on it not an issue got four 25r's so pop one out put another in .

They all say they are but I've seen a few that have an overvoltage warning eg the smowell one has the following statement

•High voltage warning (higher than 4.5V)
•Low voltage warning (lower than 3.0V)

OLED Warnings:
HIGH INPUT: When the input voltage is higher than 4.5V, pls replace battery.
WEA BATTERY: The battery voltage is lower than 3.0V, pls recharge it, at the same time the output is prohibited.

Now the low voltage warning seems fair enough, but the High voltage warning ?

Do they use better circuitry knowing that people have no option but the USB charging ?

I'm just trying to figure out if onboard USB charging is safe and effective.

In particular, safe and effective in mods with a replaceable battery or is it only if its inbuilt

As I said in the OP I reckon not having to carry spare batteries and/or a separate charger would be very handy for certain situations.
