Hi all - I'm new here.
About me - I've been smoking for over 50 years now and having got up to about 40/day I tried on a couple of occasions to give up, one success that only lasted 6 months and the other just petered out. This time I tried at the Chemist, but the Councillor and I differed in our approach, so I left that and my husband bought me some vape equipment. This has been a positive start for me. I've only been using the basic atomisers and batteries over the last month, courtesy of Amazon. I usually have 4 or 5 on the go at any one time, with different flavours, but only the 18mg strength as recommended by my local vape shop.
I will be asking later for equipment recommendations, but I'm happy with my current kit for the time being, let's take it one step at a time.
Reading on here about the comparable nicotine strength/number of cigarettes I used to smoke, my nicotine intake hasn't just gone through the roof, it's gone off into space!! At the moment I'm vaping for England - hubby calls it chain vaping - but hey, I'm not smoking. I didn't realise, until reading some posts on here, that I had probably trebled my nicotine intake:(.
Heeeeellllllppppppp!!!! Has anybody else had this problem, was that how you all started, how did you deal with it??
I'd normally ask for answers on a postcard, but here will do nicely.
Thanks in advance.
Anne

Id say vape as much as you need to keep you of the fags, so long as you arent having any adverse affects to any of the ingredients that is.

quite normal - especially in the early days - fret not Anne! I still chain vape at my computer, 18 months on but I vape very low nicotine as I like hammering my eliquid then. Much less vaping when I'm busy but I wouldn't worry about how much for now as it's surprisingly hard to overdo it, honesty

I wouldn't worry too much about how much you're vaping, so long as you aren't smoking. Nicotine delivered via e-liquid is different to nicotine delivered via a cigarette. For a start the vape particles are huge compared to those in cigarettes. Nicotine is taken up by nicotinic receptors in your mouth, nasal lining and lungs but the problem with the increased size of the vape particles is that they don't penetrate in to the depths of the lungs that cigarette smoke does. This has two effects:
1) Less nicotine is getting absorbed via the nicotinic receptors in your lungs as it can't penetrate that deep. 2) You are absorbing less nicotine overall.
This is why if you vape like you smoke then you sometimes don't feel the satisfaction you did when smoking. However there are ways to counter this:
1) Inhale the vape into your mouth and hold it there for a couple of seconds. 2) Inhale it into your lungs. 3) Exhale out through your nose.
By doing the 3 steps above you are utilising a greater amount of nicotinic receptors throughout the respiratory tract.
The other thing that is worth noting is that when smoking you finish the cigarette whether you want the nicotine of not. When vaping you can stop when you want. This leads to the opinion that you are vaping more than you smoked. Nothing to worry about and as long as it keeps you off the fags i'd not let it bother you.

Thanks all - I was beginning to worry - unnecessarily it seems. That's very re-assuring.

Hi Anne, my wifes name!, don,t worry about chain vaping or nicotine levels at this point., just don't go back to the cigarettes.
When you are comfortable with vaping then you can start to fiddle with nicotine intake etc.
This is a great forum for ex smokers, and they will make you very wellcome.

Hi Annedee and welcome to the forum.
panic not, as said above as weve all done it and some of us are still doing it.
35 years a smoker here. gave up 2 years ago on the cig-a-like craps out there and it done the trick for 3 months but i also had a daily patch on. the day i ran out of patches i was back on the stinkies.
this time i just stopped over night. a friend at work had a big tank battery mod and i was gobsmacked at the size of it. thinking to myself i would never buy one of them. in the end i bought a Blu pro kit that took e liquid and the day i got it was the day i stopped. 10 weeks now and counting. a month later i upgraded to an istick30 with a tank on top and, oh wow, the difference in taste was amazing. we will advise on upgraded later.
i started off on Blu e liquid and the only strength was 18mg which i still use at work for my hourly nic hit using NRG (red bull) flavor.
the rest of the time im on 0 nic and not missing it one bit. the hardest for me in 10 weeks was last saturday after a huge chinese meal but i didnt cave into temptation even though i was surrounded by smokers.
now the hardest bit is finding what flavor you like best and where to get it from. im now upto 63 bottles sitting next to me and spent £301 so far and ive got 12 more in the post. they range from £1 a bottle to £16 from america.
if you want we can post up a lot of the sites for you.
keep it up as you know it makes sense. in 6 months time you will be able to pay for a holiday abroad with all the money you have saved.

Chill annedee... Nothing to worry about. I started (after smoking ciggies and vaping for a few months) at 36mg/ml. It was what I needed at that time. I vaped it! No guilt, nothing I'm now down to less than 5mg/ml though it hasn't been plain sailing (don't lower your nic/ml too fast - if at all!) as I am a complex case. I also destroy e-cigs for purely moments when I feel I need an excuse to pull my hair out LOL. Certain e-cigs I will almost eat for breakfast LOL (well I look at them and then they don't work. Don't know where I got that power from LOL) Don't compete with others over anything vaping!!! Don't fret about any of the above. Just vape and count the stinkies you don't smoke rather than what you do If it's any consolation despite press reports otherwise (false science) nicotine in your concentration is about as harmful as coffee . Yes, both are stimulants but there's far worse stimulants available in any corner shop the land over

Vape as much as you feel comfortable with, let's be honest, it's so much better for you than smoking, it's a win win situation, best of luck on your journey,

Hi Mrdj well done for resisting that ciggie after the meal. I am hoping that I will come to view vaping as a replacement to smoking in the same way as I replaced sugar with sweeteners and not think about it or miss it. I live in hope!!

annedee Congratulations on giving up 40-a-day, that is a huge achievement. As others have said don't worry about how much or how strong you vape as long as you are getting no adverse effects. If you are not getting satisfaction you could try having a couple of atties filled with 24mg, maybe just for the morning. I started on 24 now down to 4/5mg, I also did the higher nic in the morning thing. Enjoy the journey Nick
