There are call blockers available that will block all international calls but provide a override feature so that the people that you want to speak to can get through

As trollminer mentioned first thing to do is the Telephone Preference Service it is free to register your numbers. It is more effective on the landline (zero calls) than the mobile (one a week), but when calls for UK companies get through I wait for the first pause say no thank you and I should not be receiving cold calls as this number is registered with the TPS, what was your company name? then tell them I will report them is they call again and hang up.

The thing with the TPS though is it can only stop cold calling, most companies go down the "just a quick question" route now and call it marketing/survey etc.

Still a cold call/ unsolicited call and it should stop them, they normally offer to amend their list or apologise when you mention the TPS.

Having had several long conversations with lots of so called market research callers, they don't seem to see it like that. Doesn't bother me in the slightest though as I used to love chatting to them about anything other than what they called for. If I can keep them talking then they aren't bothering anyone else 
I always ask to be removed from all marketing lists when they call and am always polite (except for once when the guy started swearing at me)

I did get a call blocker though - set to block all withheld and international out of area numbers and has a block now button for individual callers when it becomes too annoying.

Always polite, but sometimes curt like yesterday reversing through drive way gates (2" clearance each side max).

Pfff...kinda enjoy those cold callers. Just cook up a ridiculous story for them. Cant talk, busy roasting my mother in law! Sorry, need to run, the milkmans getting horny! I'm afraid I can't talk at the moment, I'm in the middle of sacrificing a virgin to Lemmy! can't...talk...ferret....clawing...my....(howl in pain). God,God, finally you returned my calls!!!! It's amazing how quickly they stop calling if you make each call as uncomfortable as possible.
