no usb3 working on lenovo g500

hi just on the off chance someone might know...
got a lenovo g500 laptop usb 3 ports stopped working never really noticed as didn't need them always use the usb2 port it was handier ,now ive got my 5g adapter in the usb 2 i need the usb3 working so....
did a full factory restore,loaded up base windows then lenovo drivers,updated windows,updated lenvo drivers,updated to windows 8.1,lenovo driver,the 8.1 updates and again lenovo upadates still no joy.....updated to windows 10 ,....still nothing
at all stages i tried unistalling all usb drivers showing and then updating made sure power wasn't off to them in properties and checked in appearances all drivers are there and saying theyare working but no responce to anything plugged including power ,(the ethernet,hdmi and phones socket all work fine and they are on the same section of board)

any ideas before a try a brick with it ?

fwiw i have a couple of lappys with usb3 ports which have always worked with usb1+2 devices.. on the lappy im using now it shows up in device manager under USB controllers using intel/m$ generic drivers. visibly usb3 differs from the 2 x usb 2 ports only in that the contact spade is made from blue not black placky

yep usb 3 black the other two blue used to run 2 or 3 tried both no joy drivers are showing for 2 and 3 .....brick time

just get a small hub and forget the usb3

tried that kills the g5 internet adaptor.....frustrated!!

probably cos it needs more power, a powered usb hub with its own power supply could possibly help, the power from an unpowered usb hub is limited to the socket it plugs into while a hub with its own psu (usb2) can supply 500ma to each port

Do the ports look okay physically, with the 4 contacts still in place on the tongue ? and of course, are you plugging things in the right way up

lol yep defo the right way need to strip machine down completely to check soldering tho...might try tomorrow but lost without laptop to keep an eye on you all

Only other thing that comes to mind, is sometimes drivers need to be installed in a certain order, e.g. my dell's WiFi wont function properly if the usb drivers are not installed before it is.
A google search with make,model+usb3 problems, may throw up some info that could help you diagnose issue.

just checking... sure you have, but...Have u checked the lappy manufacturers support site for updates/downloads - if old and sold on the cusp of usb3 release it might be usb3 ready but need an update to enable or confirm to finalised standards??

if its just a usb hub power issue?? an old usb Y cable could draw additional power for the hub off the usb3 port IF power is enabled on it??

out of interest will the dongle function off an unpowered usb hub when no other devices are plugged in?

Are you 100% sure they were working in the first place. It's common to get a second hand, or even new pc/laptop that's just had windows slapped on it without installing all the drivers. If a USB3 port isn't working because of missing drivers it might not  under USB2 either, or then again it might - depends on the hardware.

thanks for helps guys but all software /driver installed in correct order,infact lenovo dont do a usb driver anymore they send you to the windows one !,no no tpyr of device will work,i pretty ceratin they worked when bought but......lenovo driver are for windows 7 only this laptop was supplied 8.1 from new so no usb drivers for it just windows ones ....thx for all help guys nice of you to try thx again

for reason un beknown on mine i have a tune up software that has caused USB3 to shut off to restart it, i had to go through the bios to and enable it to work again
