I have an original that uses those rba decks and you have to take entire top apart with a screwdriver and fit a different top piece in place.
I don't mind but I can see why they have swapped over to the other bases as there's less parts and its far more convenient to swap about from an rba deck to a ready made coil, making teh subtank plus and mini far more versatile and user friendly

Get This and use them, what you have come duel coiled, just add cotton and you have 10 heads ready to go, no need to change top, dry burn and repeat, much better decks to work on than the mini...IMHO.

I don't believe there was a plan to make a 22mm tank when they designed the 25mm V1, when they designed the Subtank Plus they designed it to use the RBA from the Mini because the V1 was going out of production being replaced by the Subtank Plus. Here's the two next to each other you can see the V1 is wider.

I have a V1, which I nearly wrecked by trying to remove the RDA screw-off section with pliers. It's working but the chimney won't go all the way down. Fasttech it turns out do a replacement for $4.69, that was in today's vapemail order
