Hello,
I am new here but I have tried Motives and Nicolites rechargeable and seem to get a really bad cough! Anyone else have this problem? I was on 16 mg so maybe a little too strong?
Many thanks

Hi heaveHigh nicotine content can cause the vapour to be harsh also if the liquid is high in PG that can also be harsh on the throat. In all honesty cigalike ecigs are pretty rubbish if you have a brick and morter shop near you pay them a visit see if they will let you try out a more advanced system where you can at least use your own choice of liquid, try something with 50/50 PG/VG or even higher in VG if the tank they suggest can cope with thicker juice.

Possibly a combination of 3 things:
1) Vape particles are a lot bigger than smoke particles. Remember how when you first started smoking you coughed? That's because smoke particles are bigger than air particles. It's the same situation now but with new particles. 2) Nicotine could be too high as previously mentioned. 3) It could be your body starting to get rid of the crap in your lungs. Lots of people that give up smoking feel rubbish and develop coughs and colds before they start to get better.

Welcome heave +1 to the above advise, i also had a cough response to starting on e-ciggys and when i have slipped once or twice on returning to eciggys i get it again but it only lasts a day or so when off the backy at the most in my case.. when your gums start to heal in a few weeks they can then start to bleed when u brush for a short while too, now that did freak me out!! spend a week or 2's worth of cig money on some good kit and stuck with it and your cough will soon stop. and then after a few weeks you will begin to feel the difference..

Welcome heave, I'd have to agree with the comments of get some good kit as it makes all the difference and wont cost you that much (until you get hooked .. then the costs rise significantly .. but still less than the alternative lol) seriously though, it's the kit and juice that makes the difference

We need to ascertain whether OPs cough is caused by the actual vaping or a cough that has developed since starting vaping as it's not clear. If it's the former then getting better kit will make no difference.

Hello & welcome to the forum, heave. It could be any of the above & also, that you're taking a draw on your ecig the way you did with a cigarette & that can make you cough. Try taking a longer, slower draw & that may well help.

Drinking more will help - often drinking a lot more. Those cigalikes are virtually 99% PG, which is hygroscopic (it attracts water molecules, making them unavailable to the surface cells) Drinking will flush away the affected water. Also a move away from cigalikes onto decent kit that you can vape VG on would be advantageous in my book. ETA: Ironically a spoonful of VG will soothe any irritation

If it's the former then getting better kit will make no difference. Yep that's why i suggested going to a store and asking if they can try out some different devices and juices, the cigalike types are usually filled with 100% Pg juice so if PG is the issue then they will need a device that can be refilled by the user even if it's the cheap and cheerful CE4/CE5 type tank with an Ego battery.

Thats true although I think with the older kit like cigalike cartridges they didnt used to work well and i found i kept coughing years ago, although i was using very high nic then, I think the atty getting crazy hot though and possibly not being consistent was some of the issue as well as getting gunked up very quickly, although years later when i used a carto tank I don't remember coughing much with high pg, just had to drink alot more water than usual. I've heard some people say they get a scratchy throat from certain types of cotton and even silica, but it seems rare.
It can definitely take some weeks to get used to vaping though, and I think when you stop smoking the lungs start to release particles or something like that heh, could be something that makes some cough, even acne has been known to happen for a while, but maybe less common with vapers.

Hence suggesting to ask in a shop if he can try out other juices and devices to determine if it is the juice/device or just a case of needing to acclimatise to vaping rather than just going out a bunch of new stuff straight away.

Shall we just wait to see if OP's cough is when they vape or at other times as well?

and hello,I've been vaping for years and I still cough my guts up in the morning, even on zero nic. I keep one tank with the zero in for my morning use, then around 10.00 I can switch over to 12 subohm with no problems. It's not a harsh bark, take your breath away cough just a pain in the bum type.
