The chances are USB3 works just fine with software and it was a problem at my end that was causing the software to crash. I had read quite a few others had the crashing software problem so when I finally worked through a solution that got it running on my comp I posted what I had done. It cant be a bad idea to try other ports if you have tried one and it keeps crashing. The other steps were me eliminating other possible causes for it crashing and just keeping them in the mix when I moved to a USB2 port. bad idea to move to other usb port .. no is not .... but can be a pain to restart laptop/computer 100 times until your OS will recognize your device . Sometimes is working if you switch 2 devices between them ,...anyway a restart is recommended to do first and after to plug in your device , especially when you want to do something important like upgrade firmware , installing OS etc ..
