It's made that way because clapton wire is thicker than regular wire so if you do like 4 or 5 wraps the legs end up quite a distance apart, having the 2 screws either side means you can trap those legs without pulling them in towards the coil itself. You actually only use two of the screws to trap the wire but 4 are needed so you can wrap the wire clockwise or anti-clockwise and it still works.
