For me, it was also the longevity of the batteries, I know from having AA rechargeable batteries, that a very good charger makes a great deal of difference to how long they last and the performance. Plus you don't have to worry how long they are on charge for.

That is pretty much why I went for a Pila womble based on my experience with other types of charger, to get the most out of the relatively expensive batteries I buy. Also, I have been known to forget that batteries are charging and with one of these and as far as I know the Xtar that is not going to cause a problem. I think what macca says is spot on and because of his expertise he is more relaxed about it - Trog says similar things on UKV but not so nicely

I would get that RCD checked straightaway. That would worry me a hell of a lot more than a bang from a charger. We live in a private rented house Macca, and our landlord is one of the decent ones, has an electrician check the electrics annually, and a gas engineer checks the gas, these checks were only done in January... But if you still think I should pay to have it done again then I sure will? Have to say though, I've only noticed the RCD 'trip' whenever we've blown a fuse in a plug As that lead had no fuse, ( I know, I know) I think I'm right in thinking the rcd should still have tripped, so maybe there is a problem, that's not so obvious.
