We were doing a democracy group work and smoking bans Vs freedom of choice and THIS was said, on my life......ffs "I heard that they "Big T" put broken glass in the fags, to cut the back of the throat to make the nicotine enter faster to give a bigger kick. I give up, I really do Marlborough and others used to have fibreglass filters (don't know if they still do)...... particulates did indeed cut some peoples throats, JPS black were called lung cutters for similar reasons, the filters being poorly made meant your lungs got cut by the particualtes from the filters breaking up as you smoked them so whilst the individual was slightly misinformed there understanding wasn't totally wrong, actually it was all the additives being applied that made me go over to rollies, which never had the acrid sulphur taste that cheap tailor made's did /

Sorry the fibreglass thing seems to be a bit of an urban myth. While there are many other nasties in filters fibreglass has never been in cigarette filters.

erik514 early filters were made out of asbestos or Macroporous phenol-formaldehyde resins, some companies replaced the asbestos with fibreglass whilst others went down the micro cellulose route a few years later, that those brands are no longer on sale or had their filters reformulated in the past isn't the issue though the facts are they did do it at some point in the past and now lie about it having ever taken place...... not that we should be surprised in the 1930's it was apparent that there was a correlation between smoking and lung cancer, yet it wasn't until the 60's that it was publicly admitted there was a link between them and at that point everyone was saying you should use a filtered product to protect yourself.... the tobacco companies and public health lying to populations around the world for nearly 100 years.....why would they change tact now when they face the chance of yet more major law suits for lung damage associated with "reduced risk", or perhaps its those early mistakes that are guiding them to be so cautious about vaping as a harm reduction rather than them being fully bought and paid for proxies of big T & big Pharma companies....yeah right pigs still don't fly so its not that
