Just as I thought I'd got enough gear (xcube 2, fuchai, smok stick one, uwell crown, tfv4, tfv4 mini and enough juice to sink a submarine) someone in my local pub went and let me have a blast on thier dotmod petri rda, and I bloody loved it!
I've always stayed clear of rebuild able attys for a number of reasons but mainly because I couldn't be arsed (laughing smiley) but the flavour and vape that I got from this dotmod quite literally blew me away ????
Having never even considered buying an rda I know very little about where to begin but that hasn't stopped me from ordering a petri v2 rda and mech mod clone and dark horse clone all from FT and I can't wait for them to turn up!
Couple Qs for the drippers though, what's your favourite wicks and prewrapped coils at the minute or what am I best off starting with? Think the coils in the one I tried were a double Clapton @ 0.5ohm
Oh and I've never owned a mech mod so anything I should know about them would be awesome ta

Mechs are kind of designed for low resistance builds really. You may as well stick with regulated if you're gonna put a .5 ohm build in.

I usually use just regular wire on a mech especially a single 18650 tube mod, ramp up time is too slow with claptons, get a better ramp up time on a regulated mod. .6mm/22AWG or .5mm/24AWG kanthal suits me fine with a tube mod or a twisted build is ok.
Just make sure you're using decent batteries and make sure your builds are within the discharge limits for battery.
Dark Horse was the first dripper i bought nice thick velvety wet flavoursome clouds, only thing i don't like about it really is it has next to no juice well so you have to drip little and often.
Petri is pretty good but tiny post holes and the posts on the clones can turn, nice vape though.

For a mech, FFS make sure you use suitable batteries. Beaten to the punchline by Get Off My Cloud.

While i very much disagree with catface26 - i run a kayfun on a mech at high ohms - the thing you need to get to grips with is ohms, watts, volts & amps. For mechs, basically your build will directly affect the power you are going to get. You need to know the safety limits of your battery and make sure you stay within the limits. www.steam-engine.org/ is a great site for this. With the ohms law tab you can have a play with the numbers and work out what power you will be drawing on your battery. When you build your coils in your dripper, make sure you test the ohms on an ohm reader or on a regulated device to make sure you haven't got a short. The petri rda is a great rda to start with, if you are going to get some prebuilt claptons, they should fit right between the post without too much fuss. For wicking - Japanese cotton has always served me well but cotton bacon is also very good.

I have 6 x Sammy 30q 30A batteries which I will probably add 2 more of to use solely in the mechs.

Always build to the continuous rating to be sure of being safe.

Apart from looking nice. With the amount of voltage drop you get then taking puny hits with a mech just defeats the object.
