Glad you had a prompt reply gill2009 , although that reply would make my blood boil!
Did the letter "reassure you that the new rules in the revised TPD do not aim to prevent people from vaping, but rather to provide consumers with safer, less variable products." ?

I'm not about to bother contacting my MP. She is an utter waste of oxygen whose staffers hit on keywords in emails and send a canned response. It was quite clear that on every occasion I've contacted the oxygen thief that her staffers only keyword scan emails and send canned responses to them.

I'm certainly voting to leave the SNP...

  He's a twat...I met him face to face when he was campaigning for the General Election...he had never heard of vaping, & ultimately had to be 'rescued' by one of his staff.

I really loathe living in a Nanny State, they cant even credit us with the intelligence to make our own minds up about anything --- and I don't just mean on the vaping topic!

Got the generic reply from the assistant:

Ministers have made clear that they recognises that e-cigarettes help some smokers to quit and the evidence indicates that they are considerably less harmful to health than cigarettes. At the same time, it is essential that we do not encourage smoking and continue to protect children from the effects of nicotine.

The rules set out in the revised Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), published in April 2014, have applied in the UK from 20 May 2016 and cover tobacco and smokeless tobacco products, herbal products and, for the first time, regulate e-cigarettes. The Government has consulted on how to implement them.

Ministers understand that e-cigarettes are helpful to some people wishing to quit smoking, but the quality of products on the market remains highly variable. It is therefore important that proportionate regulation is introduced to ensure minimum safety requirements and that information is provided to consumers so that they can make informed choices. This is the aim of the regulatory framework set out in the TPD.

In implementing the new EU rules, the Government has worked towards regulation that permits a range of products, to remain on the market which are positioned as alternatives to smoking, not as products that introduce children to vaping or smoking. Since May 2016, e-cigarettes that are licenced by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency are still able to be advertised, and the advertising of all other e-cigarettes is no longer permitted on television.

I hope that this letter reassures you that the new rules in the revised TPD do not aim to prevent people from using e-cigarettes, but rather to provide consumers with safer, less variable products.

Is it just me or do the replies coming back not sound like this is where the real problem with the TPD lays, these ministers that don't have a clue or have been bought!

Treating us as if we cannot look after ourselves, it makes my blood boil !

We can but try car147.... (it's one of the reasons that I've been putting of writing to my MP, until now), but, at least some of the Lords replies have been more encouraging, and if we had more letters to more MPs surely some won't just try to fob us off ?

I agree m8, the Lords seem to be far more approachable compared to our so called elected MP's
