From Vapefest Ireland's Facebook page: "It is with great sadness that we have had to make the decision to cancel Vapefest 2016. We have taken a huge amount of advice from organisations and legal bodies to see if there is anyways around the TPD restrictions. We have been advised that Article 20, section 5, sub section d of the TPD (Page 28/29) makes any public event promoting anything to do with ecigs, that is in anyways commercial or looks to receive donations / sponsorship, is against the law and as such the organizers could be faced with stiff fines and / or prison... It would only be against the law in the UK if the UK made a law to say that. They haven't so we are okay. I guess the Irish law is very different to ours.

It all will revolve around the interpretation of banned promoting, advertising and sponsorship in the TPD. In UK law, re. sponsorship : What that all means .... I'm not sure!

Oh that's a shame Postmodern Smoking I really enjoyed last years, would've been nice to go back to Dublin. I see from the fb comments there's some mention of a Belfast VF, have you heard anything about that?

I wouldn't be surprised if VF gets cancelled, should the Lords vote fail, but I will be disappointed if it does not go ahead.

No reason why it should. Unless they define cross border event as one happening in England/Wales and Scotland. Last time I looked we were still one EU state, for now at least.

Sponsorship/promotion could be an issue.

I think it means that VF UK will be okay as long as no Irish vapers attend.
