Hi guys,
Are there any comprehensive coil building guides on the forum, please?
I'm really looking for something for absolute beginners in "ABC" form - literally from what you need to buy to how to start building.
Bearing in mind I don't know my Kanthal from an RBA deck something really, really basic would be great!
Many thanks,
Andy
(If it helps, I have got two Cleito tanks but absolutely fell in love with a Kayfun v.4 clone (??) that someone let me try in passing yesterday!)

Have you even tried the fun and games of wrapping a bit of wire round a screw driver or drill bit?
I tried and failed at that in the early days and walked away
I took to coiling like a duck to water with a Kuro coiler
What ohms do you vape at? That will help people recommend the wire to start with

other than being an un necessarily over complicated RTA the Kfun V4 is a doddle to coil and wick. Or do you mean the V5?

Lee - I think I would probably go for a 1.2ohm phtumshk - The one I saw yesterday the guy said was a v.4 clone. To be honest, I know absolutely nothing about the 4 or 5 so would be very open to any advice and recommendations!

Thanks for the advice, guys. Much appreciated.
Would you also mind recommending a RBA for a first time user?

Lots of folks swear by the precoiled from FT, just a case of screwing them down if you dont want the faff. Subtank with RBA is a good place to start with learning to coil and wick IMO. The Kfun V4 can be a bit hit or miss and generally requires some kind of fiddling to get right. But that said It is a cracking vape, currently enjoying 1 as we speak.

the kanger subtank and innoken I sub are both good tanks with rba,s available for them although tbh the kayfun v3 mini and v5 are poss the easiest rta to build at this time and the clones are available cheap nuff to try
as long as you using a vw/regulated mod youll be safe

Also, any tank with a Velocity-style deck are really easy to build on. The Geekvape Griffin is a smashing little tank, with plenty of room on the deck. Others to consider are the VCMT and Tornado, although this last tank can be a bit fiddly until you hit the right combination of coils and wicking.

ghostrider1971 - if I had the time, I would willingly put together a guide with photos. Such a guide would have helped me no end as I started out some two and a half years ago, but to be honest it is a bit like re-inventing the wheel as there are so many good videos on YouTube that it would be a waste of time. Watch various different videos on building and wicking your specific tank; there is more than one way to skin a cat, and by taking the consensus of 4 or 5 videos you should get the idea much more quickly. Building coils is only part of the skill - knowing how to wick well is almost the more important part. I can knock up a couple of coils for a dual build in minutes for a new tank, but it may take three or four attempts to get the wicking right and obtain a flavoursome vape with no leaking or dry hits (the two opposite ends of poor wicking!). Of course we are all here to help; photos can be really useful to analyse a problem and suggest a solution, so get stuck in, we're more than willing to guide you!

Guys,
Thank you very much for all your your kind replies and guidance - I really appreciate it.
I've just hit the "buy" button on Amazon for some muji cotton, prebuilt cleito coils, fat boy tanks and a Cleito building "thingy".
I've also got a Kayfun v.4 in the buy basket but might have to check the vape budget again tomorrow :-)
Thanks again - Andy
