I'm needing a new motherboard to replace my ageing Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 as the Ethernet connector has packed in. But I'm well out of the loop now as regards reliable makes that will support my AMD processor, graphics card, memory etc and have at least as many SATA and USB connectors. I used to get nearly all my gear from DABS.com but they were bought out by BT. I had a look on Ebay and noticed that my board is still very competitively priced and looks as though it is still well regarded. So I was wondering whether or not to just replace it with a new Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 at about 54 quid or, upgrade to one by another manufacturer. My board has lasted well considering it's about 5 years old. Your views and any thoughts would be most welcome. I would be able to spend £70 to £80 on a new one.

Hi sydsut if it's only the ethernet port that has gone bad a cheaper and easier option would be to add a network card. link

I thought so too morbidmatty but the only PCIEX slot is covered up by my extra wide Graphics card. But I notice they do a standard PCI one and the board has one slot that's not covered up so will investigate further. Thanks for the info

Always nice to see an easy fix and save a few pennies at the same time.

Looking at your original question sydsut I have yet to find anything to touch Gigabyte for quality in their price bracket, they are my 'go to' choice. Like you I had my 'onestop shop' in my case Ebuyer, and before that I was a regular at the local computer fairs (feeling old now), Ebuyer seem to have increased their prices to become more mainstream but I still trust their service

What is it with that. I have found far too many items now above the average price. You used to be able to buy with confidence without shopping around. Too bad. I don't expect to use them again. (I don't suppose they care...)

Ethernet card arrived this afternoon, fitted and working fine after I had to manually search for drivers, As windows 10 didn't recognise it at first. And it's fast. It's connected to my Virgin router hub and I measured 221 Mb/s download and 12.44 Mb/s upload with Speedtest. Result

Result Best I can get is 4Mb download I dont have a problem with equipment, it's just that it's all on overhead cables and I'm the last one on the line, one of the problems with being in the sticks in Cornwall
