Gamers! Excellent

Used to play a lot of PC games. Was heavily into Quake 2 and Quake 3 Arena and then Counter-Strike up until 1.5. Got a little bit bored of needing to upgrade the PC in order to play anything so if I get on that to play anymore it's normally playing SC: Brood War over Hamachi with some old friends.

Not that I have time for it at the moment, but I have been playing Fable II on the 360. It's pretty great and the missus doesn't mind playing it with me as well. She likes fire. And 'throwing it out of her hands.' She's just bought us Fable III - so we'll go through that once we've finished Fable II. Before that played the Mass Effects and Portal 2.

LAN Party's ahh.. I remember the days. It'd actually be kind of fun to do that again with old games.

I still have an Amiga 1200

but I also have loads (about 300) of the old amiga games which have been remastered to work on windows without using an emulator

and the pc games
transport tycoon, panzer general and the neverhood
all remastered to work on windows

I prefer adventure games and have played most of the well known ones

Hmm, I'd be interested to know which race you thought was OP? And how long ago was it when you played it?

They are constantly patching it with balance changes, and it seems to be in a pretty reasonably balanced state at the moment (some terrans are moaning about zerg currently being OP, due to increased Queen range and overlord speed, but I think they're overstating the case).

Seems to me that it's often the case that a complaint about balance is really just an excuse for not thinking hard enough about build order / meta-game adjustments. But most of that is beyond my capabilities in any case. I'm just a silver league player, so I'm just trying my best not to get cheesed every single bleedin' game.

(One of the problems for me is, I was never into SC:BW, so I don't have any point of comparison. Oh, and by the way, not meaning to be pedantic, but that's a Stalker, not a Dragoon. There are no Dragoons in SC2. Not yet, anyway. Maybe they'll bring them back by the time we get to the 3rd expansion!)

I primarily play Zerg and at release they were pretty badly nerfed (IMHO) and there weren't many early balance changes. Paired with the fact that I'm probably total garbage at the game (most of the meta-game is beyond me too) and I'm just making excuses. I may give it another try now that its had some time to 'settle'.

The thing with SC: BW was that it's now what, 14 years old and was touted for having pretty much perfect balance.

Yes, I play protoss on ladder, but I try to practise (vs AI) as T and Z as well.

You might find zerg a bit more playable now. Certainly less susceptible to early pressure (eg, Terran bunker rush).

Then again, it's all going to change with Heart of the Swarm. Several new units to deal with for each race. That's going to cause everything to get unsettled again, no doubt.

It's interesting that you say SC:BW had perfect balance. What I've heard (from people like Artosis, Day9, etc, who were former SC:BW players and are now SC2 casters/analysts) is that it was only patched up to a certain point, until Blizzard didn't bother to patch it anymore, and then it was just played and played and played. (There may have still been some custom tweaking of maps by users, I'm not sure). What evolved wasn't greater balance through patching, but greater balance through increasingly high-level thinking about strategies and counter-strategies. This is why some players argue for less patching of SC2. They view patching as an attempt to force balance, rather than letting balance evolve naturally over time. If you patch constantly, players get lazy and rely on buffs of their own race or nerfs of the others overcome their weaknesses. Whereas if you leave the game alone, players have to overcome their natural laziness and actually think of new strats that can beat the other races.

Sorry for the long winded ramble. I find it all fascinating!

I've been playing battlefieldplay4free for a while now if anyone else is. I don't really like to pay for fps titles as they're a bit repetitive and I think it' still one of the best free titles there are right now.

I'm still just playing guilty gear and left 4 dead 1 between times as well.

If anyone else still plays ancient games like streets of rage 2 for sega or the lesser known gundam wing: endless duel for snes, then hook me up and I'll host up a kaillera server so we can blast through some retro games
