Nice... but nearly chucked it

Well i jumped on the drip hacks cremaux band wagon as it had so many fan boys n girls.

Made it...tried it after 2 days like i always do with flavours so i can monitor the change in flavour. I nearly lobbed it down the sink...was just vile sweetner flavour to me. Lobbed it at back of cupboard and forgot about it. Just found it so thought id give it another try. Blimey a 3 week steep has really made a difference! Its lovely now!!!

Never had a juice that went from rank to really nice before!

Leave it another 4-6 weeks and it'll change for the better again. I've got about 250ml about 8 months steeped and it's awesome flavour. Buutterboy from DH is the same. I steeped it for six weeks and it was dire, left it another six weeks and what a change. I've got 1l Butterboy that will not have witnessed daylight for 12 weeks come New Years day. I'll give you three guesses what will happen to it next week.

Im so glad i didnt lob it. Will enjoy a squonk bottle full tonight...then will leave it another month i reckon

It just stayed rank to me, so it got rehomed - same as the Creme Anglaise after a 6+month steep.

Be a boring ole world if we all liked the same thing!

Certainly my joint favourite custard.

Funnily enough, have also got 250ml of Butterboy sitting patiently (unlike me....) in a cupboard....3 weeks to go - ho hum

Appreciating I am probably in a minority of one....I'm guessing the reason I might like Cremeaux so much is that it doesn't have "Cat vomit" in it (Capella Custard v.1)

Not enough sweetener in those jtc . . . . I'd speculate that the originals have anything between 2-4% of a sucralose based one.

Although both those recipes look appealing.

I would bet my last penny they're not original recipes. Couple of ingredients there that DH don't use and flavour % is a bit short.

I got some sent from the lovely Perpetua and I thought it was lovely. Tried a few custards and thought they were horrific (I'm looking at you Grants) but taste is subjective as I loved Bazilla Custard and Nikotickets one many moons ago but I do like sweet stuff.

Oddly i think the hackshots have v1 whereas the shortfills have v2.
