Greetings once again. Firstly many thanks to all those that were able to assist me a while ago with my initial purchase of our first Ecig supplies. I purchased from Vape Escape an SD key ring cig for my mother and a Riva 1100 for myself. My mother has got on well with hers and I will be ordering a couple more for her as I am aware they are not intended for full time use, however being unable to use batteries with buttons leaves no other option, but is not a problem. She likes the LnB prefilled cartomisers and so will keep her supplied with those so she is happy and down to 10 cigerettes a day already. However I have been less fortunate. My first cartomiser lasted 3 days and during the first 3 days I smoked half my normal number of cigarettes, however after using up my first cartomiser I have had a series of problems. 1 Cart when filled ( 20 drops ) did nothing, I put a few more drops in and the wadding soaked them up and tried again and ended up with a mouth of burning hot liquid. I then tried 2 other carts and after 2 or 3 draws ended up with burnt lips, not from liquid but from the tip of the cartomiser. I have tried my mothers SD key ring and find it is no where near as hot, however as a heavy smoker realise that its not going to be a viable option, even though it was a much more natural and pleasing experience. I have also tried one of my mother’s prefilled carts from the SD on my Riva and find that after 2-3 draws like my home filled carts burns my lips / mouth. ( not sure if the prefilled SD keyring carts are meant to be used with the riva, if not might be the reason ? ) I do not think cartomisers are for me, is there another solution where the element is further away from the mouth / lips ? I have tried to do some reading up myself www.safercigs.co.uk/Vision_Ego_Clearomizers_16ml/p705283_5779009.aspxwould this be a viable solution ? As always many thanks for any and all assistance and your time in reading my question Kind regards Anthony & Doreen

Glad to hear your mum getting along well with her set up As for yours, did you get a drip tip included in the parcel ? You put these on the end of the cartomiser and it helps a lot with keeping the lips away from heating metal cartos If you did, simply remove the white bung as if you were going to fill the carto and insert that instead. If not they are normally only a £1 or 2, maybe get one to try before you consign them to the never again drawer. There are Stardusts (the link you gave the same thing just different vendors call them different names), a lot of people are raving about them but I havent tried them yet.

I get on very well with the clearomizers: they're easier to fill, I can see if the juice is low so I never get a burnt taste and while they can get hot at the bottom, the vapour is always pleasantly cool. If you get the short wicked version (the ones in the link) then you need to remember to tilt them occasionally so the juice runs down to the wick, but that becomes second nature very quickly (like flicking the ash off a cigarette).
One of the things that made me resistant to vaping at first was that I knew how to smoke and I didn't want to have to learn anything complicated to replace that. Cartomisers seemed complicated to me. Clearomizers seem simple.

Thanks for the update Anthony & really pleased to hear your mum is getting on well with the SD As Jemima says, a drip tip will stop you getting burnt lips. have a good look in the box that your Riva kit came in as Jason does usually include one as a freebie. As for the carto that you filled & got hot juice in your mouth, that sounds to me like you over filled it, try blowing it out - ie hold a piece of tissue over the battery connection end & blow through the opposite end.

Stardusts are worth a try, I think. I haven't used anything else since I got hold of one (months ago) and it's not hugely expensive to try one out.
But all the options are more technical than cigarettes in one way or another. Cartos do work, but can be temperamental. I'm sure you could get them to work once you get a filling and topping up routine working. As others said above, a simple drip tip makes cartos more comfortable to use, and you have to make sure they aren't flooded in the central tube, usually by blowing the excess out when you fill or top up. There are many videos.
But mostly, well done on the progress so far and I hope it continues.

Once again thank you ever so much for all the helpful information and kind words.
I am at my sisters now and have ordered some prefilled LnB cartomisers for my mum.
Are these ok to use with the riva ?
If so I will order some for myself and stick to prefilled along with the advised drip tips and see how I get on. I'm sure I'm refilling them fine as I filled my first cart 3 times and was fine, I just started having problems after the first cartomiser.
Kind regards and many thanks Anthony & Doreen

If the LnB cartos fit the SDK then they will fit on your Riva Don't give up with re-filling yet these pre-filled ones can be refilled

Thanks Karma but I think I will give up on refilling.
A pack of 5 prefilled works out about £7 for 100-150 ciggs worth compared to £35 real ciggs. I'm more than happy with that.
Many thanks again Anthony

Hi from one noob to another!
I've now passed the one month mark with zero ciggies! Or rollies in my case.
Sorry to hear about the problems you're having, but if you're gettin juice into your mouth, I'm sure that's either over-fill or not letting the juice settle into the wadding. I've over-filled many times but finally got the measure of it! Sorry for the awful pun. (hangs head in shame). When topping up, just a few drips of juice around the edge of the cartridge, pop the bung back in and let it soak in for a couple of mins.
For an even easier experience, try the stardust, as mentioned by the others, they are great, consistent vapour delivery, and you can't really over-fill as you can see how much fluid is in the cartridge.
Best of luck.
