SS mesh wicks are rigid enough to wrap the coil directly onto them very easily.. You could coil it elsewhere and slide them onto SS wick I suppose, but dunno why you would need to do that..

I was wondering how big a 14 Guage needle was en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Needle_gauge_comparison_chartLooks like 2.1mm o/d, 1.6i/d. I don't possess one, but digging around in my bit box I found a CE2 air tube whicjh is 1.6mm o/d, which is similar to a 16 gauge needle. Hmmmm...

Yes, the coil opens out slightly when you insert the needle and then springs back when withdrawn around the wick..
As long as it's not too big and does not distort the coil, 0.1 mm is not really an issue.

Correction - the CE2 air tube is 2.0 mm dead. My original screw was 2.7mm od (i.e. at the peaks on the threads). I have scavenged a finer one from a bit of speedblock at 2.3mm od, so that might work better. Now all I need to do is figure out how to thread the wick through the tube.

Wrap a little wire around the end of the wick and use that to pull it through, or some tightly wound selotape.

Well, I want to double up the wick - a single wick will be too loose on the coil.

To cut a long story short - there's no way a double wick can go through the tube, so I reverted to my original method of pulling the wick directly through the coil made on the smaller screw.
I superglued it (the screw) to the centre pin from an old Boge to give myself something to hold on to.
Came up at 2.4 from 5 turns and is vaping quite well.
