Is the heat due to transfer from the atty or from the wires being over current or a mix of both? I was wondering if the use of an adapter to move the atty away would be of any use?

Nothing to do with the atty heat..
It's the wires not up to the job to handle large currents in many cases..

I did think that they were a little thin. Beefing them up will give more heat to the coil as the dissipated power would not be there.

I had issues with my Riva's and since beginning of March have been using this vapeescape.co.uk/joyetech-ego-c-1000mah-battery~316 as my all day vaper, and using LT at night, I've rarely had to resort to a back up Riva and in my view although it has slightly less MAH its much better , recently I've stopped using the LT as I bought something similar to this in GB vapeescape.co.uk/joyetech-650-ego-t-batteries~341, in fact this may be what I got , I'm not sure cos I didn't get what I ordered not Perpy's fault but it was a very happy mistake I love it infact may well order another as Jason has them in the sale , but I'm trying to be good Anyway I think both of these are better than the Riva, although I've only been using the 650mah about a month its not stood the test of time yet but its sooo dinky and cute !!

Usually wires getting hot enough to melt solder and coming away..RIVA's are fine as long as you stick to SR.. Once you start using cartos of less than 2 ohms, they usually fail.. Macca your knowledge of all things battery / electrics related is a godsend. Would you consider writing an idiots guide when or if you had the time?

The joyetechs are very reliable batteries kirsty, the problem for me is that they are regulated to about 3.3 volts, but if they work for you they are very good.

Yeah I really like them Dave I bought the second one has a back up as I didn't intend taking the LT on holiday but then realised that if I vape above 3.7 my tongue burns so I've kinda given up on vv for now and am happy with joytechs

I found out the hard way Riva's aren't up to LR , but tornado and ego handle it well . I still have 1 riva left almost 9 months old and it handles LR surprisingly , but I use it as a back up nowadays so it doesn't see much work .

Lots of replies! Sorry for not getting back sooner. My (now ex) OH has been using the batteries with LR Visions but they are 2.1 - 2.4 according to Vape Escape. I use the SR ones. He's left and taken the sticky button one, so i'm left with one working Riva and my SDK. He also took my spare Visions and this morning mine isn't letting me draw from it (too tight) > > Macca yeah i think the one you fixed has gone again, i need to start buying different colours or marking them! That's so kind of you to say you'll have a look, I'd never expect you to give up your time again so i'll pay you or send you something for your time! I will have a look at the ones recommended, too! But maybe now it'll be just me using them they'll stop breaking?! Strangely enough, none of them have broken while I've been using them (just saying ) but i do know he was very careful not to over screw them too
