The first issue of the CAM-VIP magazine will be going to print in time for VapeFest.
We will only be getting 500 copies printed so it is not exactly going to change the world - however, it is an opportunity to show ecigs and vaping in a very positive light. It contains basic info about the pastime that will interest and educate smokers but it also shows how ecigs are used the length and breadth of the country by a diverse range of people.
It is not a specialist magazine, it just shows that ecigs are a part of everyday life for a large number of people. It is more about the people and the places they live than about ecigs which should attract the casual reader as well.
Printing costs money - CAM-VIP has no money so the cost can be covered in a number of ways;
By adding a cover chargeThis could work for the first issue as it will be distributed at VapeFest to enthusiasts who would probably pay a pound or two for a momento of the day and it is a way for them to show their support. However, the target audience of the mag is non-vapers and pubs, so future issues need to be free to increase awareness in that community.
DonationsThis will not work imho as I have kept tabs on the donations that both CAM-VIP and ECCA have had and only a handful of individuals have over the years.
Vendor advertsThis is a possibility, but I have not looked properly into it so far. The six vendors that are helping with the ebacconist campaign could fund it between them but I'd prefer it if the magazine was kept more open than that other project.
Donations for spaceThere are so many diverse people that use ecigs. They have varied interests, jobs and interests. If someone donated a tenner for argument's sake, they could use part of the magazine in any way they wanted (within the bounds of common decency and all that ) It would certainly make the magazine more interesting.
I've added a donations page on the CAM-VIP site that can be accessed here
camvip.webs.com/apps/donations/.
Having thought about it over night, I want to offer 'awareness space' and ads for vendors as a way of raising the funds. The rates are below;
Awareness Space - can be anything for example promotion for blogs and forums, ads my modders plus businesses outside of the ecig industry, hobbies etc..
quarter page = £10
half page = £15
full page = £25
Advertising Space - for ecig retailers only.
quarter page = £20
half page = £30
full page = £55
This is for only 500 copies but they will be available at VapeFest. This means that I require the copy by the last day in July at the latest.
The lastest 'ad free' version can be seen here
