Is he Proud of team GB though Yeah, I think its a scottish thing, but put it this way, murray is definatley that bloke sat in the corner of a pub and cheers his head off when san morino or any other team scores against england. That typifies murray the way I look at it. But your right, good on team gb Well sounds to me that your the one that has a problem that a Scotsman is the best tennis player in GB and indeed the Olympic Champion

Apologies if it came across wrong. What I meant was, all scottish will cheer san marino. And no I don't have a problem with any member of gb winning any event. Wether they come from reading, devon, swansea, cardiff, glasgow, belfast, I dont even consider what town city or county or country they come from. I dont even consider it. Its only now I realize chris hoy comes from scotland. No I don't have any problem with any of that. Its just murray and his openly anti english views that show time and again.

im with you on this jay. murray has a chip on his shoulder and has only mellowed after pressure from his sponsors, its public knowledge and not really disputed by him. of course id sooner him win than lose just as i would scotland but he would sooner england lose than win thats the difference. even wore an argy shirt a while back when england were playing them. maybe this hole games thing will tie us together a bit more as no one else around the world seems to like as much. well done GB your doing great.

I really don't want to start a Scottish/English thing here but there are a lot of reasons why Murray could be anti- English when its England playing rather than UK first of all the fact that the media refer to him as British when he is playing well but as soon as he loses he's Scottish so it must be very personal for him . Also referring back to the media several BBC sports commentators have today referred to Team GB members as English or the England team its not its the British team. If people would get it right in then there wouldn't be so much bad feeling about such like and possibly us Scots would be more supportive of England in competitions when we don't qualify football, cricket etc

the thing is murray was and still is very young. whoever his pr team were they should have been sacked. many people have different views but when your under the spotlight day after day it is better not to be seen acting in the manner he use too. he has mellowed his tone somewhat but for some of us it still gripes to a degree but i will admit to softening to him a bit after his recent wimbledon defeat.

Agree kirsty and I think its pretty much racist when commentators do that. You laugh but look how things have developed over the past 30 years. It annoys and embarrasses me even as an englishman. Chris hoy will no doubt shout for anyone playing against england, but I look upon him as british. And with pride. But I just think murray is different. You have to remember, hes scottish when he wins and british when he looses. How can someone truly be british if they openly dislike the english that much or indeed any of the nations within the uk. A untied gb team, a united kingdom, all working together for each other is where I'm at, but just unsure if thats where murray wants to be.

One also has to remember that Scotland and Wales are very passionate about their roots, who they are, their history, and their country, far more so than the English - they also remember how the English have treated them over the years, and this is passed on to every new generation (not all, but most), so the anti-english sentiment remains, and in some ways is justified. Although bygones should be bygones, it's not always the case - you've only got a mention potatoes over here................... I lived in Scotland for 5 years, born and bred in england, with a scottish born and irish born family - made for an interesting time I now live in Northern Ireland

The English/Scottish rivalry has been going on for centuries - first the battlefield, and now in sport. Frankly, the English haven't enamoured themselves in the past with the Scots - but that is history. There is nowt wrong with a bit of rivalry in sport, and I'll always support England over Scotland in a competition. However, if it was just Scotland in a competition, I would support them over the rest of the world. It's just one of those things really. Quite sad. And what is sadder is watching interviews with Scottish fans who claim that England banging on about '66 is why they choose 'anyone but England'. Their choice, of course, but quite petty in reality. Anyhow, Team GB all the way!

Well, I think Andy Murray did us and himself proud today. His past ' anti- English ' comments doubtless got hyped up by the press . . . I don't believe for a second that's how he feels today. Who hasn't put their foot in it, in their youth with an ill judged remark . . . hell, I still do it now in my dotage.

Andy DID join in the singing of the National Anthem this time!! Well done Andy. MMa Yeah I saw that too................. I think he is beginning to realise that his anti-English views were not endearing him to the general public but now since Wimbledon............. we are seeing a softer and more tolerant side to him. Kudos to him for joining in the anthem and having the Union Jack on his shoulders!! I thought it was a pity that he had to play his doubles final 45mins after his singles match!! But a silver is better than nothing!!

Yes Esme, he did seem genuine singing the Anthem and wearing the Union Flag. I agree that the 'doubles' came too soon after. Nem mind - they did well really. MMa
