Love the bit about e-cigs devices "known as pens"!
This is actually true - I have never used the word "pen" to describe any of the e-cigs that I have sold, but get asked about my "pens" or someone who "wants one of your pens" - on a regular basis - it is a name that seems to have caught on - with lots of the public.

I am sure that I can remember watching a video where Scott Bonner said that his first ever e-cig was a Gamucci.
They have been around for years.

Both Professor Michael Siegal and Professor Carl Philips have said that e-cigs are at least 99% less harmfull that cigarettes.
So if 2 Professors are saying this, then I think that it is perfectly valid to repeat this claim

If you thought that the Daily Mail article from a few months ago was bad, If you thought that it just could not get any worse ...... Think again. The Lancashire Evening Post has got to the very depths of bad reporting on e-cigarettes. www.lep.co.uk/news/health/local/electronic-cigarettes-fears-1-5642830The article, in which the reporter has done no research whatsoever, tells the story of a Taxi Driver who switched from smoking to e-cigs and developed gum problems (a normal symptom of stopping smoking cigarettes - described on the NHS website). He blamed his gum problems on the e-cig and even said that his Dentist recommended smoking rather than using an e-cig. The newspaper reporter rushed out the 'warning' article after spending 0.00 seconds doing any research. - remember, according to the LEP, the next time you want health advice, speak to a Taxi Driver, not any of the academics.

As it is now in the public domain anyway, Anyone who is interested in reading the leaked OLAF (EU Parliament fraud unit) report into Dalli can have a look at the report here docs.google.com/file/d/0B7Swai6S9z6QRlJUWGE0dkN1b1E/edit(Warning - over 120 pages long!) Former EU Heath Commissioner and original author of the Tobacco Products Directive, resigned over allegations of corruption, that he offered a Tobacco Company (Sweedish Match), via a third party, that he would lift the EU ban on Snus in exchange for a 60 million Euro bribe. LEGAL DISCLAIMER - Please note - John Dalli denies the allegations against him and is innocent until proved guilty in a court of law. .

The EU's JURI committee (legal affairs) has recommended that the ENVI committee remove e-cigarettes and certain other proposals from the proposed TPD. This is excellent news for us as it indicates that somebody in the EU has actually looked at the public health issues instead of blindly following the EU / pharmaceutical and cigarette industry agenda to protect cigarette sales at any cost. The JURI committee's recommendations in brief are: - Remove e-cigarettes entirely from the TPD for two reasons: - Less harmful alternatives to smoking are required - The inclusion of e-cigarettes would not stand up to legal challenge - Remove certain clauses that would delegate wide-ranging powers to the EU's committees and would remove those powers from the democratic process - Remove or amend certain plain packaging requirements and similar measures for cigarettes Well that is very good news for us. Source here (Rolygate): www.eccauk.org/index.php/news-and-blog/eu-juri-committee-recommends-removal-of-ecigs-from-the-tpd.htmlAnd the committe report here (PDF) www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do?pubRef=-%2f%2fEP%2f%2fNONSGML%2bCOMPARL%2bPE-510.591%2b01%2bDOC%2bPDF%2bV0%2f%2fENBloody Brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes - the letters, emails etc to MEPs have been working after all - keep up the pressure, do not relax now ! .

Always remember that you cannot compare the nicotine dose that is printed on the side of a fag pack with the nicotine per ml in your e-juice.
It is not comparing like for like.
Reason :
The nicotine dose printed on the side of a pack of cigs is the nicotine that is delivered to the body per cigarette - it is the dose that you actually receive into your bloodstream.
The nicotine on the e-juice bottle is the level in the liquid - it is not all fully absorbed - much less is actually delivered into your body - and this figure will vary depending on what atomiser you are using and how you vape (length of drag etc).
If you are vaping 30ml of 10mg/ml juice per week - this looks like 300mg of nicotine per week ( 40 ish per day ) - but this is the level in the juice - NOT the dose that is actually being delivered.
The amount that you are receiving is much less
- multiply the nic on the side of the pack by about 10 - and that is the nic in the tobacco leaf - you dont actually absorb anywhere near all of this.

If you have a mech mod & a kick and the kick goes wrong you are still left with a useable mod. If you have say a Vammo and it stops working, you are knackered. Alan Yes - I think that is a very good point. Mechanical mods, theoretically should be more reliable (and/or fixable) because there is no circuitry to go wrong.

There are some valid concerns - but on balance this will probably turn out to be more good news than bad.
It will not affect vapers very much - they will not be competing with other e-cig companies - the product will be aimed at smokers.
They will definitely NOT want a 4mg rule - they will want to be putting 36 or 45mg juice in their product (24 minimum) - and on that level it will help us all because they will have their lawyers picking apart any proposed legislation in order to keep the market open.
In order for them to maintain their main business - it is very much in their interests that e-cigs remain classed as recreational products regulated as general products, the last thing they will want is for e-cigs to be classed as medicinal. But they will get an MA if they have to.

In the same week that Altria, the owners of Marlboro in the USA, announced an e-cig launch - here in the UK, Imperial Tobacco plans to develop e-cigs as a result of a drop in profits in the west. Imperial Tobacco provide brands such as Lambert & Butler, Richmond, Embassy and Regal - and also distribute Marlboro in the UK. uk.reuters.com/article/2013/04/30/uk-imperialtobacco-idUKBRE93T09J20130430The news report, published by Reuters, confirms what many have suspected for some time now, that Imperial will be entering the electronic cigarette market, following behind BATs aquisition of Intellicig a few months ago. Imperial say that they are "actively developing in that area at the moment" and that they will be "open-minded" to making aquisitions - in other words they are looking at buying out an existing electronic cigarette company. .
