May just have been a communication error or typo?
I've not heard of anything that charges at 4.3v and can't think of any benefit to doing so.
It won't make a difference to a 3.7v battery apart from an overcharge risk.

I'm leaving sometime between 13:00 and 14:00, depends if Wife will tie my laces or I have to do my own.
So I'll be there between 14:00 and 15:00.

Every atty apart from pre-filled cartos which I have ever purchased has been dry.
Sounds like you got sent somebodies returns!
It is advised to clean all atties before use though.

Just got a new one so should be ok. Output 5v on the plug DC 4.2v 420mA So it's 5v out from USB port and then charges the Spinner at 4.2v @ 420mAh. I wonder where Toni got 4.3v from then?

I've not seen a dedicated Spinner charger but almost all domestic 3.7v chargers output 4.2v. Not many people have a DC power supply with selectable voltage. Can you check your Spinner charger Phoenix . and see what the output voltage is please?

This is the problem with buying from overseas zeldamum, if it was a UK company you would have more rights, sort of. I shall be more than happy to have a look at it for you, no charge, just pay the postage and I'm a happy man. The only real caution I would give is this.... If it's a fault that I can't fix then you may well sour any warranty claim you have with FT. Lets see if I can beat the 8 week turnaround you would have from FT? PM sent

kingofswords, the jury is still out on this one. The symptoms are indicative of a head short and that's where I went with spikus' Spinner. After insulating the post and replacing the grommet the symptoms persist. I've checked the other main connections and all seem good. It's looking like a failed component or manufacturing fault somewhere on the board. When I get a good board to compare it against I'll let you know what I find.

That's right.
The whole top part including the 510 connector and the drip well come off as one from the top of the plastic screen.
No real force is required, just a gentle back and forth rocking motion and it'll walk right out.

That's right Toondog, unscrew the top collar and then the top cap will just pull out with a pair of protected grips. Sometimes they are such a loose fit that you can just screw in a carto and wiggle the cap off. The only time you will have an issue is if the eVic is 2nd hand and has been repaired before, many people use superglue to fit the top cap back on. Here is the factory reset info

Yup, looks like my issue was the protection circuit kicking in.
Battery at full charge 4.2v with 1.6r head, change to 2.2r and works fine, back to 1.6r won't fire.
Change battery to one at 3.6v and 1.6r head fires up fine.
So my eVic doesn't like low-ish Ohms with a hot battery?

OK two new thoughts Toondog. 1. You didn't mention whether or not the eVic is 'seeing' the atty? Does it show resistance readings when you change head/atty? Do they match test meter readings? 2. I just tried a battery straight out of the charger and my eVic wouldn't fire. Try using a partially discharged battery for your testing.

I'm trying to replicate the fault Toondog. Is it possible that you are in RVV/RVW mode and have a badly defined table? If you have a leading time slot with a long interval and low voltage it may not be enough to fire, depending on your atty. I have a Nova with a 3 Ohm head which will not fire below 3.8v.

Thanks for the tag Roscopecotrain. Toondog, my 1st thought on this is firmware. If you haven't done it already I would recommend that you download the latest version of MVR, do a factory reset on your eVic and then update the firmware. The symptoms you describe do not sound like a mechanical problem with the switch although it could still be an electrical/electronic fault. I would not rule out any spring, contact or switch fault at this stage as the eVic's electronics may be seeing something you aren't. Btw, you do not have to break an eVic to dismantle it, the head comes off if you sneeze! I have not seen the symptoms you describe in an eVic before and maybe somebody with more experience will be able to shed light on this specific fault?
